Publisher's summary

Furry fandom is a recent phenomenon, but anthropomorphism is an instinct hard-wired into the human mind: the desire to see animals on a more equal footing with people. It’s existed since the beginning of time in prehistoric cave paintings, ancient gods, and tribal rituals. It lives on today - not just in the sports mascots and cartoon characters we see everywhere, but in stage plays, art galleries, serious literature, performance art, and among furry fans who bring their make-believe characters to life digitally, on paper, or in the carefully crafted fur suits they wear to become the animals of their imagination.

In Furry Nation, author Joe Strike shares the very human story of the people who created furry fandom, the many forms it takes - from the joyfully public to the deeply personal - and how Furry transformed his own life.

alright

decent if rambling book with a wildly incompetent narrorator that frequently mispronounces words and repeats sentences

Living the furry life

I love how they cover all of Curry life, culture and history. they don't shy away from what's someone called the dark seedy side of furry or all variant types of furry life. It even showed part of furry that I have no clue about.

Well written, not so well read

The material was interesting, but the narrator was mostly monotone and uninterested. It was hard to differentiate at times when a new topic was introduced or being talked about, or who/ what the subject was at some points.

A grey muzzle's history lesson.

Without a doubt the best put together book regarding the furry fandom. Awesome and comprehensive ranging from early bootlegs of kimba all the way to zootopia. The narrator is very green and made some mistakes but not bad.

An accurate and informative look into furries

Very informative and enlightening.

As a part of the furry community myself, I found the information presented here pretty spot on. There was a lot in here I already knew about, but some things that I did not not; especially having to do with the early days of the fandom. It does not shy away from the more controversial aspects of the furry fandom, but is also not solely focused on it. It is quite balanced in that respect.

If you have no idea what the furry fandom is about, this will cover multiple facets in great detail. By the end, I would imagine that the majority of you readers/listeners would have a decently nuanced perspective on the furry subculture. Yet the book doesn't cover absolutely everything

On the technical side, the narrator stumbles on some foriegn words and reads a few lines twice; But overall, this is a great listen.

some studdering in the playback, overall great

this was a good overview of the Fur community. There was a bit of audio stuttering, but it didn't hurt the listening

Amateur Narration

This audio narration is probably the least professional I’ve encountered. Stumbling from one paragraph into another without pause, multiple words and proper names mispronounced repeatedly, and most notably, a great MANY failed takes where the narrator messes up, then re-reads the sentence, all of it left in the final edit. Disappointing for an otherwise interesting book. I hope the re-do this someday.

Rushed out the door

Narrator seems uncomfortable with the material, editing pace is inconsistant and sloppy in places. The actual book in question is fine, but more attention should have been given to the performance and editing.
