Editorial reviews

Among the most complex social upheavals of the modern era, the French Revolution remains an object of study and discussion for contemporary historians. This iMinds overview nevertheless presents the revolution's nuanced and turbulent nature in clear, palatable language, providing young listeners an easily digestible look at this decisive time in French history. Television actor Todd MacDonald holds children's hands through the tumult, and provides and even-paced account of the upheaval's turning points, including the formation of the Nationalist Assembly, the Storming of the Bastille, the March to Versailles, and the Reign of Terror. Young audiences will learn about the revolution's origins in unfair taxation and food shortages, and will understand the role of important historical figures, including King Louis XVI, Marie Antoinette, and Maximillian Robespierre.

Publisher's summary

Learn about the history of the French Revolution with iMindsJNR audio learning series for younger minds.

The French Revolution came about because of a long-held displeasure at how the rich lived. While the rich lived comfortably, the common people were forced to pay taxes too high for them to pay. And there was not enough food produced for them to eat. French peasants became so impoverished that visitors to France said many of them were as skinny as skeletons.

In May 1789, King Louis XVI called a meeting of priests, lords and common people. At this meeting it became clear the common people wanted more power. They felt they deserved it as they were the only class required to pay taxes. In June 1789, the common people formed a party called ‘The National Assembly’ to look out for the interests of poor people.

Short and upbeat with good information.

Even though this audiobook is only five minutes, it has good information and the narrator does an excellent job in pronouncing French words. I enjoyed this FREE read.

A REALLY SHORT, BRIEF OVERVIEW

Only meant to give a very tiny understanding of what the revolution was mainly about and who a FEW of the main groups or individuals that were involved. Very, very brief but wets one's appetite to read more on this subject.
