If you want to discover the captivating history of Mexico, then pay attention....

Before the modern country was born in 1821, the territory that today comprises 32 states and few small islands was inhabited by ancient dynasties and kingdoms of warriors, astronomers, priests, temples for human sacrifice, and, surprisingly, some of the largest cities in the world. It is estimated that the sacred city of Chichen Itza, in the Yucatan Peninsula, was larger than Paris at its height of splendor.

This fascinating journey through Mexico’s history, from its amazing pre-Hispanic past to the end of the 20th century, will reveal more surprises than the listener can imagine. In the words of the self-proclaimed Mexican singer Chavela Vargas, “Mexico has magic. I looked for that magic, and I found it there.”

In History of Mexico: A Captivating Guide to Mexican History, Starting from the Rise of Tenochtitlan through Maximilian's Empire to the Mexican Revolution and the Zapatista Indigenous Uprising, you will discover topics such as:

  • The era of empires
  • The Spanish-Aztec war and new Spain
  • The birth of a nation
  • “From the Halls of Montezuma....”
  • The big division
  • “The most beautiful empire in the world”
  • In the times of Don Porfirio
  • The Mexican Revolution
  • The Cristeros
  • The Second World War and the Mexican miracle
  • End of century pangs
  • And much, much more!

I wish it went into more details in some parts, it feels like a lot is left out, but generally pretty good

Good book generally

The history of Mexico is very difficult and the author does a good job of cutting it down. This audible gives more than just dry facts and adds his understanding of the facts that bring the history alive and describes how Mexico got to where it is today.

Very Comprehensive,

This looked like a majestic audible but was never a task. The audiobook feels seamless, from one period to another. The pre-Columbian period particularly is fascinating since most of us know only Aztec and Maya!

Mexico's reconstruction

Recommended to anyone who desires to understand Mexico, not just conjecture externally. A great audiobook to understand if you want to understand Mexico and its people.

Comprehension

Written in a conversational way that gets you through a lot of solid information and complexity about the timeline details and dates. There is a powerful social anthropology theme and it is compatible in tone and form.

I am very glad with this audiobook

For a man who loves to read but has so little time, listening to this audio book was both fascinating and educational.

Certainly, this audio book is a must for anyone who is proud to be Mexican-American.

Great audio book

Short but entertaining, this brief history of Mexico rarely drags, very informative. I would recommend it.

Worth listening to

Helpful to get broad strokes of very deep and complex moments in Mexican history. I wish the narrative was a native Spanish speaker. The horrific mispronunciations were boarder line disrespect to the history being told. Overall a good read.

A good start

I love this book. I am a Mexican American In Texas and I always wanted to know the beginnings of Mexico and of the how the first civilization came about and lived. Many of the foods that were born in Mexico i ate daily, i didn’t know that. This book was a good way for me to understand my. Mexican decent in my blood. I’ve been to Mexico a few times in my life and Mexico is so breathe taking now i know why. I love this book more then I thought I was going to. Thank you.

I very much enjoyed the history and remember much of it due to the stories from my parents grandparents and family. I am a first generation American of mexican descent.
I did not at all care for the narrator who's pronunciation of the spanish names and names of towns and events was extremely poor.
You need to find people who can pronounce the language correctly. Language and it correct pronunciation is also part of the history of all countries.
