Critic reviews

“Don Bentley does it again and does it well with Forgotten War, his fourth Matt Drake novel that ripsaws between war and peace and everything in between. Bentley, an Afghanistan vet, Apache pilot, and former FBI agent brings all this to the table for a word feast that few writers can match. There’s a lot going on in this fast-paced and well-plotted tale, and the bonus is the sharply drawn characters who you may—or may not—want to meet in a bar or on the battlefield. Forgotten War is an unforgettable read.”—Nelson DeMille, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Maze

Don Bentley rocks–this guy knows his stuff! His military thrillers are among the best in the business. And Forgotten War is as good as it gets. Intense. Explosive. Riveting. Absolutely unforgettable!Joel C. Rosenberg, New York Times bestselling author of The Kremlin Conspiracy and The Libyan Diversion

"Sensationally good—I want more Matt Drake."—#1 New York Times bestselling author Lee Child

Another hit

Another scintillating read. Bentley keeps knocking it out of the park regardless of what universe he’s writing in.

Page turner that honors our fallen

The action is great and does not get overshadowed by technical detail. Also, the author takes the time to honor the courage and dedication of other soldiers. Most of us know the Afghanistan debacle upset and angered so many vets, and this book explains why.

Technical action that doesn't drown in the details

The writer is able to put together compelling characters, a plot that is solid yet easy to follow, and love. The only thing he lacks is submariners, because everybody knows they are the sexiest members of the military.

He develops technical aspects of the story without resorting to drowning the reader in minutia. Sometimes, it feels like writers use too much techno-boogey in an effort to overcome their own personal lack of experience. You can tell this writer has experiences.

I will definitely add this writer to my future reads.

seriously dude, submarines are where it is at!

The way in which we withdrew

Made me realize just what a disaster the way we withdrew from Afghanistan really was. To see it from a soldiers eyes instead of a civilian lens makes it hit home even worse. Makes me understand that no nation should ever trust us again to do what we had said we would do in exchange for the help we received by the Afghan terps. Why would we ever be trusted again?

Hands down the best thriller I’ve had the pleasure of hearing/reading in years. Well written and performed.

A great chapter in the Drake series

The emotions that are elicited by the author, tap into things that I don’t even acknowledge sometimes. As a veteran and someone who served overseas during war times, the sacrifices, the pain the tragedies, while I didn’t encounter all of these encountered enough to understand the empathy that I feelcomes out when I hear these stories. Wonderful job done by the author again.

Amazing book, inside the mind of an operator post Afghanistan

This really helps me understand the mind of an operator, post Afghanistan. I know this is a fiction book, but sometimes that’s the only way to get across the emotion and tension of a failed policy. The lives of these fearless men and women should always be celebrated regardless of the outcome… But given the amount of sacrifice they made on a daily basis, I can understand the loss and grieving. Thank you for writing this book. Scott brick is the best at what he does, and I am glad that you chose him to read this book.

Excellent work

One of Don Bentley’s best. The story gives meaningful character history and humanizes the 20 yr Afghan struggles in a deep and personal way.

The best yet by a long shot

Ol Drake has a hard time, that’s just a fact. You can feel the ties the author has to this story, and it really shows in the writing. Fantastic story, fantastic performance by Scott Brick. Wonderful.
