Publisher's Summary

Emily Mitchell, 35, living and working in New York City, has struggled through a string of failed relationships. When her boyfriend of seven years takes her out for their long-awaited anniversary dinner, Emily is sure that this time will be different, that this time she will finally get the ring.

When he gives her a small bottle of perfume instead, Emily knows the time has come to break up with him - and for her entire life to have a fresh start.

Reeling from her unsatisfying, high-pressure life, Emily decides she needs a change. She decides on a whim to drive to her father's abandoned home on the coast of Maine, a sprawling, historic house where she'd spent magical summers as a child. But the house, long-neglected, is in dire need of repair, and the winter is no time to be in Maine. Emily hasn't been there in 20 years, when a tragic accident changed her sister's life and shattered her family. Her parents divorced, her father disappeared, and Emily was never able to bring herself to step foot in that house again.

Now, for some reason, with her life reeling, Emily feels drawn to the only childhood place she ever knew. She plans on going just for a weekend to clear her head. But something about the house, its numerous secrets, its memories of her father, its oceanfront allure, its small-town setting - and most of all its gorgeous, mysterious caretaker - doesn't want to let her leave. Can she find the answers she's been looking for here, in the most unexpected place of all?

Can a weekend become a lifetime?

Good Story strangely accented narrater

This is an American story with a British narrator. Strange and at times hard to listen to. Otherwise a good story and characters. This is the first in a series, i hope there is another narrator

British Accent?

Liked the story but was had to get past the British accent send terminology. This takes place in the US with American characters.

Sweet story. Narration ruined it for me.

I listened to this via Audible romance package. Had I used a credit for this I would not have been happy. The narration nearly ruined it for me. It was distracting and really took away from a light, kind of fish out of water tale. Years of unpaid taxes? Who gets away with that? The town is filled with offbeat, funny, people who are kind of endearing and a little annoying at the same time. The mains are sweet, predictable damaged characters who are muddling around and trying to find new and better lives for themselves. I would say if you want a sweet very light book read this one and skip the audio version. Sorry...

such a shame

this story would have been much better either read, or with a different narrator. The narrator on this one did an excellent job, but has such a strong European accent that narrating a story set in Maine is a joke, and actually pulled me out of the story and distorted the magic. if the story had been set in England, Ireland, or even South Africa, then the voice would have helped to transport me, too bad.

Pleasantly surprised

Never had read anything by Sophie Love and I’m glad I went for it. A story of new beginnings, kindness, friendship and love. I really enjoyed the story. The narrator did a great job as always. Good writer plus good narrator makes a great read.

Good Story, strange Narrator

I really like the story line and characters. The only thing that throws me off is that the Narrator has an accent that is out of place with the story setting.
