Publisher's summary

Join the Phantom, Christine and Raoul in this unabashedly romantic sequel to one of the best loved stories of all time!

This sequel to Gaston Leroux's Phantom of the Opera begins just after Christine and Raoul leave the Phantom in his lair in the basement of the Opera House. After faking his own death to escape the Paris authorities, the Phantom sets out to find Christine again, eventually following her and Raoul to London. When a crazed maniac begins his killing spree not far from Christine's home, her life maybe in danger... In the ultimate test, will the Phantom put his life and his freedom at risk for his love?

And will Christine - desperate for song (which her husband, Raoul, has forbidden in his jealousy) - finally open her heart to the Phantom, as he desires?"

Fall in love with the Phantom and Christine

I first encountered the Phantom of the Opera through Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical version - ironically at the opera house in Stockholm, Sweden, but I fell in love with the Phantom through Davyne Desye. Her continuation of the Gaston Leroux's novel captures and expands on the profound emotion and love of Erik for Christine while still holding true to the original story.

In this story, Christine develops from a fragile, naive young girl to a passionate, powerful woman through disappointment, sorrow, intrigue and true joy and love. We see the true nature of the Phantom, Erik, revealed through his undying love and devotion. Their relationship becomes an unforgettable and enduring love story.

A vibrant exciting tale, For Love of the Phantom is a an intricate tapestry, carefully weaving the original characters into an indelible storyline that incorporates many historic details of the time. I am now on my 5th or 6th read of this novel, and I can't get enough.

I have read the story several times, and this is my second time listening to the audio version. The characters come alive through the rich alto of the author's own voice. I am thrilled to have this as part of my listening library, so i can continue to enjoy it in the future.

A very interesting continuation of the original

While I haven't read the original book, and my only knowledge of the story comes from musicals and movies, I was very intrigued by the premise of this trilogy.

I do have to say that I loved how classic this book seemed. The writing style had a classical vibe to it, to the point where it was hard to remember that this was a modern retelling. This was something that I thoroughly enjoyed, because at the same time it didn't have the same slow-paced feel that most classic novels had, so I was able to fully enjoy the story.

I can't say that I particularly liked the way the story was going, mainly because of the way Christine was being treated by both men in her life. The way Raoul would treat her annoyed me, and then the Phantom just went ahead and stalked her. I wasn't a big fan of that, I would have loved to see her meet Erik (aka Phantom) again in different circumstances that didn't involve stalking.

That being said, it was a really interesting read and I'll definitely try out more of this author's works in the future.
