Drawn out, Weak main character, average narration

I received a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an unbiased, honest review.

My review keeps getting deleted so I'll keep it simple:
- Story is VERY drawn out, repetitive - could have been consolidated a lot. I wanted to quit listening but I'd already invested so much time
- Main character, Amy, is weak, hard to empathize with her
- Her love interest, Lucian, is just a prick. Not likable, even as a "damaged" soul. There is NO mention of a safe word until very late in the book - not cool.
- Original narrator for Amy was hard to stomach - voice was very whiny and didn't flow well. New narrator late in the book was MUCH better
- Narrator for Lucian was dry, robotic - felt like he was reading his lines out of context. Not believable in his character and certainly not as a dom

Overall, I wouldn't recommend this book. I was never able to truly get invested in the story.

Not What I Had Hoped For

Amy is obsessed with a man who makes her feel worthless (her words, not mine) and is forced/coerced into sex over and over. Lucian doesn't know the meaning of the word "no" and takes what he wants, when he wants it. We call that rape in my neck of the woods. Since Lucian is her client, she keeps giving in to him because she's expecting a bonus and wants to buy living room furniture with it. Apparently the price of her self respect is a sofa. Long before the revenge games began, I disliked both main characters so much that I didn't care what happened to them. I was disgusted with what Lucian did to Amy's roommate and then he tried to justify his behavior by saying that he didn't enjoy it. It's okay because his heart wasn't in it? Amy's "brilliant" plan for revenge was juvenile and lame. That was the best idea that she could come up? Of course there was a happily ever after because we all know that the way to a man's heart is to vandalize his property. Huh? No. Just. No.

I had a difficult time getting through this audiobook but for the purpose of a fair and honest review I listened all the way through. I regret that it was such a lengthy listen. Call me a prude but I don't find rape the least bit romantic. It was over the top and unrealistic and I doubt that any reputable BDSM club would have allowed Lucian to do what he did to Amy's roommate. I also was not overly impressed with either sets of narrators, although the second duo was a little better. The male voices sounded a little creepy and robotic and the first Amy voice was kind of whiny. I really wanted to like this but I just didn't. Despite the many positive reviews that I've seen for Flesh, I personally would not recommend it.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This review is my honest opinion.

Another 50 shades of BS

2nd series I've tried from this author and now I know she doesn't understand BDSM at all. Oh sure she uses all of the right words but the characters always have to be broken to enjoy it, and then love fixes them. *gag*

Disappointing

Story line good; narration so-so altho Lucien's voice was ok. Difficult to invest in characters.

Fair Read, in endearing heroine.

Overall the story was interesting and flowed well. But the heroine ducked. She was a judgemental prude, and very difficult to root for.

Great up and down series

Loved that this was a a complete series and could listen start to finish. I thought the first one was S L O W but then it got better and better so many twists and turns with a HEA Half way through didn't know how it could end with HEA This is one I could listen to again Sex all through The readers were great. The dom voice was so seductive. This is not a true romance but if you like slightly dark with good story line I can recommend this series.

Interesting if not a bit long

This was overall okay, but a bit long. The lead character was a bit needy and could be a bit tiresome. The narration was solid though and helped move things along.

It was...ok

Overall, this was a pretty good listen and follows much the same format as books in the same genre. Rich dom meets shy girl and nontraditional romance blooms. I listened all the way through and became invested in the ending. I had a couple of major problems with this audio book though.

First was our lead character Amy. She whined and threw herself a pity party way too many times to count. I wanted her to just come out and say what she thought or ask a tough question instead of shying away from it. And the way she just kept coming back for more mental manipulation like a pathetic dog was maddening. Have some self respect, girl!

The second problem was the narration. The main character's voice changed about 3/4 of the way through, which was odd. I liked the second narrator's voice better though, for what it's worth. The male lead just didn't ooze sexuality the way I would expect or like. In a book like this, you want a sexy male voice for your strong male dom character in my opinion.

I received this audio book at no charge in exchange for my honest review, and I honestly give this book a 3.5. It had good points and an enjoyable story line, but a few issues as well that kept it from being a 4 or 5 for me.

Mixed feelings

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed other books by Sky Corgan. I was on the fence on this one.

I felt that Amy was a bit whiny and childish and that that Lucian was just disconnected. I didn’t get any sense of true feelings for Amy until close to the end.

The switch in female narrators was a bit of a hiccup, but I adjusted pretty quickly and thought the second was a better fit.

Entertaining and enjoyable series

3.5 stars
Very entertaining and enjoyable series. The boxed set is definitely the way to listen to this series. I would have never listened to this story in individual parts. With a title like Flesh you know on top of an interesting plot as well as a pretty darn good story with a title like Flesh obviously there is going to be a lot of "steam" going on throughout the book. Don't get me wrong there is plenty of story inside and some of the twists were completely unexpected. There were times I would have liked a little more story and a little less steam though.

Amy wants to experiment a little in the BDSM world and the perfect place to do it without any strings attached is Flesh. Even though she realizes it isn't really her cup of tea she craves a little more time with Lucien. When Amy's real life "collides" with Lucien's her world is turned upside down. Lucien wants to play and he is willing to do whatever it takes to get Amy to be his muse.

Amy is torn, half of her wants to play the game at the same time half of her doesn't. Her body is telling her one thing, her mind is saying something else. She lusts after Lucien but she fills like she is compromising herself for her job. Lucien is a master at the game and barrels past any objections Amy has.

It took me a bit to warm up to the characters. Lucien is a dominant so you are definitley not always going to like him. He can be abrasive and an alphahole. Amy was just so insecure and full of self doubt that it was annoying at times. She does grow on you though.

The prequel should have been at the beginning not the end. It would have given the listener more understanding into Lucien's character and motives.

The narration was really good. All the narrators had pleasant voices that were easy to listen to for long periods of time. Clearly spoken with a nice pace. Really good character voices. Really like that the main characters were each voiced by different people instead of just one narrator. They brought the story, characters and their emotions to life.

There are issues with the quality of the audio at times. It kind of "warbles" at times. I don't know how else to describe it. The volume also fluctuated a couple of times. Also you can hear narrator Rita Rush sniffing and swallowing every once in a while. Although she does a really good job with the narration. This continues until a change in female narrators later in the series.
