Story
AD 2150: Chris Randall just lost his job as a bodyguard. That night, after picking up his wife, Bree, from her shift at a local casino, he breaks the bad news. Moments later, thunder cracks the sky, but there’s no lightning. Flaming debris rain across the valley, and a dark mass goes sailing out of the clouds, headed straight for LA. It’s not one of the Union’s starships, because they can’t defy gravity like that. But then, what is it? The answer chills both Chris and Bree to their cores: It’s an invasion.

Bill Steele is in the trenches, trying to survive in the competitive world of luxury vacation resorts on the island of Kauai. Then a dark shadow falls over the island. Story
In the 20th century Earth sent probes, transmissions, and welcoming messages to the stars. Unfortunately, someone noticed. The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined their vast Empire. Swearing allegiance to our distant alien overlords wasn't the only requirement for survival. We also had to have something of value to trade, something that neighboring planets would pay their hard-earned credits to buy. As most of the local worlds were too civilized to have a proper army, the only valuable service Earth could provide came in the form of soldiers....

Father of cyberpunk William Gibson’s original script for Alien III, written in 1987 as a sequel to Aliens, never made it to our screens, although it went on to achieve cult status among fans as the third instalment that might have been after being leaked online. This terrifying, cinematic multicast dramatisation - directed by the multi-award-winning Dirk Maggs - is the chance to experience William Gibson’s untold story and its terrifying, claustrophobic and dark encounters between humans and aliens, as a completely immersive audio experience.

FROM MILLION-COPY BESTSELLER JASPER T. SCOTT
The Forerunners set out from Earth to colonize neighboring star systems
And to search for intelligent life...
The United Nations of Earth sent out the Forerunner ships to explore and colonize the four most promising star systems within 50 light-years of Earth.
Forerunner One left Earth under the command of Captain Clayton Cross, heading for Trappist-1. After a ninety year journey to reach it, the crew encountered not only a habitable world, but alien life already inhabiting it, and dark secrets lurking beneath the surface.
The revelation of who these aliens are and what they want proves more terrifying than promising, and Captain Cross is forced to make tough decisions that will affect not only his crew, but the fate of the entire human race.

Good Story and Concept; Narrator mispronouncing
I really like the story, especially the first contact and resulting actions.
My only complaint is the constant mispronounced words by the narrator. The worst is "corpsman" or "corpsmen". It should be pronounced similar to Marine Corps (sounds like "core"). The narrator pronounced it as "corpse" (corpse-man or corpse-men). A corpsman is a medic; a corpse is a dead person. I cringed EVERY TIME he said the word. There are others but this particular one was repeated often. To his credit, he did a great job distinguishing the character voices.

smart story for 1920s, not 2020s
The book started out alright, albeit lacking in originality, but soon I realized that the author relied on way too may cliches, the characters made too may assumptions that wouldn't make sense in the real world or even a future technologically advanced world and there were way too many dumb things done by supposedly trained professionals. To me, the writer is imaginative because the story concept is original but he lacks in writing and storytelling skills. On the other hand, I gave the narrator 5 stars because in my opinion he is talented with a good range of voices and I feel he was able to properly portray the characters. However, and I know this may sound nit-picky, but in the first half of the book that I was able to listen to, he mispronounced a couple of words; corpsman as "corpse-man" and wan as "wane". In the end, I didn't return the book because I managed to listen to half of it before I finally gave up on it. Someday if I'm really hard up for something not too deep, I may finish it.

Great
This book was a great beginning for a series. The development of the characters was unexpected and added to the mystery of what was going on. I really enjoyed listening to this book.

Plot holes big enough to drive an asteroid through
Whilst the narrator makes a valiant effort to engage the listener the fact that base material has the intellectual level of an amebic slug makes this a challenge that just can’t be achieved.
The plot has massive holes and characters make stupid decisions purely to move the abysmal plot forward in a non sensical manner. The basic premise has merit but it is so poorly handled it makes this audio book insufferable. Go and listen to something better with a grounding in reality like the Expanse, rather than loose 8 hours of your life that would be better spent watching paint dry.

A really good start to the series. I wasn't sure at the start but I stuck with it, I'm glad I did. It different to the normal Post-apocalyptic novels I listen to, but alien invasion and human survival fits in nicely.

Science fiction at its absolute best!
This story has it all! The story-line is excellent, there are wonderful characters, and the alien species, well you will just have to listen to it yourself to discover how clever and cunning they are!
This is the first book my husband and I have listened to by this talented and well known author, and we are now totally hooked. His fantastic plot kept us on the edge of our seats as we listened eagerly to discover the next stage of the adventure.
A true thrilling roller-coaster of a ride, not to be missed by lovers of great science fiction.

My mistake
I though this might be an interesting first contact story with a good yarn about exploration of an alien world.
Instead it was just basic space marines, space battle, galactic empires type of story. If you enjoy that type of thing then perhaps it's a good read, but I didn't find anything clever or original about it.
I prefer something that exercises a few more brain cells.

Almost deserving a 5 star
The performance was great! So no issues there.
The story took a while to grab me... By halfway I started to enjoy it and by the end I will say I thoroughly did enjoy the book as a whole.
The details encompassed in the technology present in the story were pretty solid, however, I found the behaviour of the scientists (fallible Humans though I realise they are) to not quite match up to their apparent intellect, or their capability as a person to have been included in the Forerunner mission.
It was that particular kind of point that had me not feeling quite so connected to the story in the beginning.
I know you'll get irrationality in all manner of people from all levels of education and culture... I am basing my opinion on my own experience in the scientific community, though.
That aside, after it started really becoming the Clayton show, the story grabbed me and I really enjoyed it.
I kept expecting him or Delta to pick up a dead aliens' weapon or strip the suit off or something...
Or that they wouldn't go back into cryo and would attempt to reverse engineer the suit and weapon of the dead alien aboard.
Those expectations were subverted, however, and I am not displeased by that.
The ending sets a strong tone for what's to come, and while some of what I perceive as flaws in the set up still niggle at my overall enjoyment of this book as an opening, I do look forward to the rest, and I just purchased the next one in the series.

Characters not credible. Performance Droll
My first impression was the droll performance of Ben Jaeger-Thomas. He definitely reads too slowly for me and there is no exitement in his delivery.
The characters in the story are not credible. As supposedly highly trained military and science personel they break every rule in the book and consequently get themselves in to easily avoidable situations. I truly hope that mankinds first encounter with aliens has better representatives of the human race than these characters.
