Publisher's Summary

When curvy American archaeologist Virginia Jones finds the lost burial mound of an ancient Anglo-Saxon king near the English city of Brighton, she uncovers much more than she expected. Unearthing a priceless artifact summons an evil dragon who'll stop at nothing to claim the treasure for his own hoard. Trapped in a burning building by a beast that ought to be imaginary, Virginia's only hope is to call for emergency....

Dai Drake has an unusual occupation for a dragon shifter - he's a firefighter, part of an elite all-shifter crew. When he rescues Virginia from the blaze, he instantly recognizes her as his one true mate. But how can he tell her what she is, when the first dragon she ever met was a greedy, bloodthirsty monster?

As Virginia and Dai work together to save the artifact from falling into the wrong claws, the spark between them quickly grows to an inferno. But will his secret make their relationship go up in smoke?

wow

this is the first book by Zoe chant that I have read. or actually listen to to be technically correct. I think the narrator is the best narrator I have heard in a long time. She had many characters that had different varieties of English accents. there is Irish and Welsh and Scottish and highborne English. And she got them all and kept them consistent. her women sounded like women and her men sounded like men. I actually thought there were multiple people narrating this. And then the story itself was awesome. I liked all the characters, they were well developed and each had their own very distinctive personality that was fun to listen to. I have already read another of her books and I'm going to continue. I would recommend this book to anybody who likes shifters or dragons or just a fun read.

Whole series a total win!

I listened to these a while back when they were free with kindle unlimited “Read and Listen”. Before I had finished all 4 (more are coming soon but only these currently available and you can be sure I’ve preordered then!) I had purchased them all. The narrator is fabulous, and the stories are GREAT! All the characters work together so well as a team, even though each book focuses on one particular couple and story. I can’t recommend these enough!

Dragons, accents, firefighters, shifters, and sass

Virginia and Dai were just what I needed today. I loved Virginia and her smart wit and sassy. She did not like what she encountered and then she really was putting her foot in it. Dai knew what he had the moment he rescued the curvy American Virginia from the fire on his territory. For Ash stoke the story. I wanted more of him. I love Lucy Rivers. She give a performance a lot and I always enjoy her work.

Good Quick Read

I got this story via audiobook boom and this is my voluntary review. I loved this story. Virginia is so cute and Di is so out of his element. But he knows that she is his mate and as the story twists and turns the end resulting HEA is great. The humor was very well done. The narrator was very good as well. I hope there are other books in this series. I like quick and complete stories.

Horrific Welsh and Irish accent!

The narrator seemed to believe a sub par glaswegian accent sounds just like a Welsh and Irish one. The premise of the book is a bit weak and I never quite understood why you had shifters from all over the UK and Ireland working in Brighton? Mediocre story and awful narration makes this an instant return.

Terrible narrator

Sadly there was nothing I liked about this Audio book. If I could give zero stars, I would. Total waste of money. I bought via Amazon and reviews were good and upgraded to audio. I should have looked at the audio reviews, then I would not have paid for the audio version. Reason being Dai short for Daffydd which is Welsh. Dai was described as having a sultry Welsh accent, where in-fact the narrator gave him an exaggerated Scottish accent. It is clearly obvious the narrator can not distinguish between a Scottish & Welsh accent. I had my doubts about the narrator from the start when she tried to talk with a male aristocratic accent, which she failed at and went totally overboard to the ridiculous. The deal was sealed when Dai spoke!!! Absolutely ruined the story. So much so I couldn’t get past chapter 4. I’m so annoyed as I paid for the next book in the series. I’ve now read the audio reviews on that, which read the same about the narrator. This is such a shame as the story might have been good, I’ll never know unless I read the book rather than listen. Please author if you read this review, in future invest in a narrator who can actually speak in the accent required for the story. I have listened to American narrators in the past with fabulous Welsh accents. My advice is do not waste your money on this series of Audio Books.

oh dear

Well, she tried. Various UK accents are very difficult and so different. To have 5 or 6 to try in one book was not going to be easy. Bless her, she did try but, to me, failed abysmally. I was disappointed as I did enjoy the kindle version and was looking forward to this one. So sorry but I could not continue past chapter 4. Perhaps this is one of the times when various people should have attempted the story?
