Publisher's Summary

What exactly did dear old mum get up to before I was born?

I was supposed to be going to Harvard on a full ride. I’ve always been excellent at chemistry. Turns out my knack for chemicals was because my mum is a witch and a potions master. Did I mention she summoned a demon for a ritual and Lucifer himself came? Can I tell you how weird it is to go from card carrying atheist to finding out Satan is your dad? Harvard is out. My magic was bound when I was a baby. Apparently, now I’m going to Fortuna Conservatory instead because once I’m unbound, I can cause hell on earth. Something about being the princess of Hell.

I’m engaged to be married to who I thought was my mother’s cat and a boy from my high school I’ve nicknamed Cockblocker. Oh, he’s actually a hellcat and I hate him. I’m trying to get out of it. My high school ex is a hellhound and he’s at Fortuna with me. He’s unusually interested in who my father is and would have known what I was when we were dating. In fact, there are two hellhound leaders here that are just a little too interested in dear old dad. I’m woefully behind in everything since I was raised as human. A green haired warlock has taken me under his wing to help me with magic. A vampire tutor was arranged for me by the woman who foretold my birth.

All the answers about me came in a vision to the hellcat’s mother, Lilith. She’s the one moving pieces in the background. She’s arranging marriages, choosing my classes, and putting people in my path. She’s also avoiding giving us any answers.

Can I navigate a magical school when I have no training, not kill this hellcat I’m engaged to, manage my crushes on the warlock and vampire, and still survive with two huge hellhounds sniffing around? Something big is happening. My birth wouldn’t have been foretold if it wasn’t. I need to unlock all of my gifts as half angel half witch because whatever is going on, I’ve only scratched the surface.

love the book but not the narrated

wow i love this series I was so excited when I saw that came out on audible book.my excitement was short-lived as I started listening to the book. I really Place feedback but in this case I just had to write something about the narrator of the story and hope that when the second book comes out audible that it has improved. while the female voices we're done well when it came to lucifer I was hugely disappointed Lucifer. not only did he not sound like a male he sounded like a little old lady .

Terrible narration

The narrator speaks with ridiculous inflection and broken tones. It's like each third of a sentence is recorded separately. Terrible. Good story but the narration makes it hard to pay attention and comprehend.

AMAZING

I was quickly drawn into this audiobook. The storyline never failed to keep me entertained. The narration was great. The narrator was able to do both male and female voices well. I'm looking forward to starting book 2 in the series!

Terrible narration

I listen to Audible books almost daily. There have only been a couple of books over the past several years that I couldn’t finish due to the narration. This is one of them. I purchased the whole series as a set & was only able to get part way through the first book. The narration was painfully wooden, accents were good but the word flow was terrible with odd pauses & emphasis on words that made no sense. I’m just going to read the books on Kindle.

WORST. NARRATION. EVER.

I liked the story. It wasn’t fine literature, but rather an enjoyable guilty pleasure. But, the narrator was the absolute worst narrator I’ve ever heard. I’ve been an audiobook lover for 20+ years, I’ve listened to tapes, cds, and I own 800+ Audible titles. Never have I heard a narrator I disliked more. Her pronunciation was absolutely terrible!!! I can usually handle a mispronounced word here or there, but she mispronounced main character names throughout the WHOLE BOOK. I can’t fathom what would make the author and director okay with presenting this recording as a finished product for paying customers.

With that said, this series is available on Kindle Unlimited. If you have time to read it the “old-fashioned” way, do that and SAVE YOUR MONEY OR CREDIT.

Disappointed

Love the premise of the story. But right from the very beginning it moved too quickly to get the meat of the story. The main character was too accepting of anything and everything presented to her. The narrator is not to my taste. She was too stilted and made listening not enjoyable. Her inflection was off throughout. After this series, since I’ve already paid for all of them, I will avoid any books read by her. The narrator can really make or break a story and this one is off putting - there are so many other narrators who do a great job, sadly, this one didn’t. I’m not sure I’ll be able to continue the series because of her.

Voice Perfomance OK, Story is Good, Writing OK

I liked the story overall, but the main character didn't seem realistic with her emotions about finding out her father is satan. She took it very well, and the story went really fast. I wish the story went more in depth, but the audiobook wasn't worth the price.

absolutely horrible and incredibly amateur

I will start off by saying, I love audiobooks and I listen to about 5 or 6 a month. I have never wanted to be return/exchange a book before. Even when the writing is so so and the narrator is not very good, I have been able to stick it out and hear to the end.

That being said, to start off, the narrator is Terrible! She has a very choppy speech pattern and the voices are hard to understand due to poor enunciation. I thought okay. I'll tough it out and eventually it won't be so bad.

As I continued, the story was incredibly unbelievable! A girl is dropped off at home and overhears her mom talking to some people about how she needs to go to Fortuna Academy and not Harvard. The "mysterious" guys then allude to her causing a storm and knocking out power. She loses her temper for no reason. Then apparently finds out her dad is still alive by still eavesdropping. Lo and behold! Missing dad for 18 years pops out of thin air and she doesn't bat an eye. He then proceeds to info dump a ton of cliche information. But the absolute worst part is that this main character never bats an eye. She takes it in stride, no questions asked and only gets mad. Then she starts to question, with no prompting, her house cat and possibly being supernatural when she's never questioned it before.

This was within the first 5 minutes of narration. Absolutely horrible and not even would I listen if it were free. Save your money! Don't waste your time! There are so many other books out there that are 10 times better than this book could ever be.

The worst part is that the story has a good premise. Poor execution in both writing and narration.

The narrator killed the story. Awful

If this series has any chance it needs to get a new narrator.
She made all the characters whiney and annoying. The character voices and accents... oh god it was painful to listen to . The male characters sounded more feminine then the female characters Hell for most of the book I thought one of the main boys was gay and I was shocked when he showed interest in the girl.
This really is just a mess and waste of money.

Solid RH start

This is on a good typical RH path. Book 1 is no steam as the group starts to get to know one another. So far there are 3 in her harem (vampire, hellcat, warlock). There are hints that there will be more added in book 2 (incubus & helldog)
My biggest complaint is the narration. This book would have totally benefited with dual narration as the narrator doesn’t do male voices well.

Loved the story

I absolutely loved this story. The narration did take away a bit from the experience but the story made it worth continuing. Can’t wait to see what happens next

A must read!

I loved this book, it was a fantastic start to the series, I loved the way Lucifer was portrayed as a doting daddy, and the family cat did remind me of Red Dwarf's Cat (thank you reviewer London Lass!) I just see Cat's face when I picture Keene in my mind! I found the story addictive once I got past Hayley's brattiness, I just found it a dhame it took something so drastice to see Keane in a new light and stop blaming him for everything. I absorbed the book in one sitting and was so disappointed I'd reached the end, I've got book 2 ready to go!

Not the best narrator...

The story seemed to just jump a lot and there were times when you could tell the narrator skipped words or sentences. Portia reads 5 words at a time and I’m unsure where the , and . Are as she just goes on and on. She let the story down.

couldn't get into

I couldn't get into it and had to stop listening after 7 minutes in. the narrator made the males sound like up tight girls and especially the devil, I was expecting him to sound dark and sexy, not reminded me of a snobbish grandmother talking. I'm going to try reading it and hopefully can get into it.
