A New Adventure in Nesteryia

This is the second book in the series and although it can be read as a stand alone the reader will miss some of the connections and development depicted in the first book of the series. I find these stories to be filled with fun, adventure, and excitement. Although they are written for a young audience, I think readers who like this genre will find them to be entertaining. Fred Wolinsky continues to do a great job as the narrator creating different voices for each of the characters portrayed in the story. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.

Even better than the first one!

For a relatively short book, this story is jam-packed with adventure! I enjoyed this one even more than the first book, partly because I was more adjusted to the narrator, but also because I liked the relationship developments. Once again, Finn and Audie are drawn into Nesteryia, but this time, they are sucked in with Trey, the bully. In some ways, this reminds me of another favorite middle school adventure because the story involves a bully being dragged into the other world along with the MC and over the course of the adventure, all of their lives are changed for the better. But I think we need more stories like that anyway. In this story, when Trey is brought to Nestyria with them, he is completely shocked and initially fearful--a complete 180. What I love is that as much as Finn and Audie are happy to see their friends and Finn has the ability to work magic, he is still afraid of the evil that is apparently attacking Nestyria, and working through his own fears and doubts continues to be a theme in the story. Just because things ended up well for them in the first book, it doesn't mean that Finn is magically a different person. I liked that and am definitely looking forward to the next book, especially because this one ended on a cliffhanger, dang it! Still, I can recommend this series and anxiously wait for the third one. This is the third series I've read by Trevor Darby and I have really enjoyed them all. He writes interesting stories, interesting worlds, and interesting characters that are appealing to kids and adults alike. Please write faster, Trevor Darby, ha ha!

Enjoyed it

A good follow up to the first book. I enjoyed seeing old characters and getting to know new ones. The fast paced story pulls you along and as before there was good character development. Left us on a cliffhanger though so I'll be looking forward to the next one.
