Story
In October 1943, a U.S. destroyer sailed out of Philadelphia and supposedly vanished, the result of a Navy experiment with electromagnetic radiation. The story was considered a hoax - but now Juan Cabrillo and his Oregon colleagues aren't so sure. There is talk of a new weapon soon to be auctioned, something very dangerous to America's interests, and the rumors link it to the great inventor Nikola Tesla, who was working with the Navy when he died in 1943. Was he responsible for the experiment? Are his notes in the hands of enemies?

Publisher's Summary
In Final Option, Juan Cabrillo fights the worst enemy from his past to the terrifying and unexpected ending created by the Grand Master of Adventure, Clive Cussler, in the latest action-packed thriller in his number one New York Times best-selling series.
When the CIA realizes the identities of three American spies in Brazil have been compromised, they turn to Juan Cabrillo and the crew of the Oregon to rescue the agents. What seems a routine operation turns out to be a trap designed by Juan Cabrillo's greatest enemy, a man driven by hate to seek the ultimate revenge. At the heart of the plot is a state-of-the-art ship that is identical to the Oregon: same weaponry, same technology, same ability to evade capture. The only thing it doesn't have is Cabrillo and his talented crew.
But will they be enough to go up against the one ship that rivals their own? The crew of the Oregon must piece together a series of disturbing events, including the mysterious sinking of a nuclear attack submarine and the possible discovery of a WWII-era weapon that was thought to be lost in the jungles of Brazil, in the ultimate game of cat and mouse.

BEST YET IN THE SERIES
Best story line. Great writing. Most creative. I have read the entire series. Some were fair, many were excellent, This is the pinnacle. The writing made the reader feel right in the middle of the action. Character development was superb. Story was very creative. I have listened to all the series and went back and read several to take in by another sensory medium. This one I will definitely do both. Anxiously awaiting the next book. It will be difficult to surpass FINAL OPTION but Ihave confidence you can. "Good Hunting " --- Last comment. Do not ever lose Scott Brick as your narrator. He is the best!

It's a 3
I have read probably 6 of these books. This was by far the worst. The dialog was so corny and predictable. Dialogue was drawn out, as if you didnt get what they eluded to, the me make it all so clear and ruin any myster.
Beside that, the performance was very good. The story was a 3. could have been half as long and equally entertaining.

Great!
This is book fourteen of the Oregon Files Series. I have become a fan of the Oregon ship and her crew. In this book Juan Cabrillo faces his greatest enemy. His enemy has created a ship just like the Oregon to challenge Cabrillo. The story goes from a mysterious sinking of a nuclear attack submarine to the jungles of Brazil looking for a WWII era weapon.
The book is well written. The plot twists and turns. The action is fast and non-stop. The story kept me on the edge of my chair, and I just could not stop listening to the audiobook. I always have fun with the crew and their fancy toys. I cannot wait for the next book to come out.
The book is ten hours and fourteen minutes. Scott Brick does an excellent job narrating the book. Brick has been the narrator of all the books in the series. I think it is important to keep the same narrator throughout a series.

Edge of Your Seat Book!
I've been a Cussler fan for decades and an Oregon Files fan for years. There is something about the genre and the way Cussler & Co develop their stories that is far better than most authors I've tried.
As the Enterprise in Star Trek was a huge part of the story and a character of its own, the Oregon is also a huge part of the stories and is also a character along with Juan and the rest of the crew. There is something comforting and safe and yet edgy and dangerous about the Oregon.
This book is a well conceived, well researched and well written story that finally pits Juan against a villain who is just as cunning and just as cagy, but far more dangerous. The stakes are high, the players at the top of their game and the reader is along for a wild ride.
You don't have to have read the series in order or even prior to this book. I definitely recommend giving it a try - Scott Brick does his usual fabulous job as narrator - and then diving back into the canon to learn more.
That's the best thing about Clive Cussler; there is always more to learn.

An awesome series with a great cast of characters and a spy thriller storyline. A tramp trader that looks like an old rustbucket but is one of the most high tech ships in the world. Our captain and crew go around breaking up terrorists crime Lords and basically saving the world one operation at a time. Clive Cussler one of the best action thriller offers out there.
