Publisher's Summary

Jazz pianist Liz Randall is reeling from her wife's death and struggling to keep their band together. An invitation to play at the prestigious Monterey Jazz Festival is an opportunity she can't turn down, and a challenge she might not be up to until she enlists the help of a mysterious neighbor who's surprisingly knowledgeable about jazz.

When Jac Winters reluctantly agrees to help, a past she wants to forget threatens to destroy the carefully ordered life she's built with her guide dog, Max, in the quiet town of Carmel-by-the-Sea.

With music and love swirling around them like ocean currents, will Liz and Jac play it safe or risk everything on making a comeback?

    "Fantastic story, meh narrator"

I loved this story. Good writing, good pacing. The narration was distracting, though. Jac sounded so robotic, I thought it was one of those computer generated voices. Still, I got used to it after a while. Toward the end of the book, however, the narrator missed the voice switch a few times and read another character's part in Jac's voice. The producer should have caught that and re-recorded that segment.

"Indecision May, or May Not Be My Problem"

I was attempting a witty headline but it really is hard to rate or review this book. I almost gave up on this selection a couple of hours into the story; partially due to the deary nature of the text, but mainly because of Fray Maxwell; aka, the monotone narrator. Except when she did Jac; a supposedly hot woman with a voice deeper than 90% of the dudes I know. Thankfully I stuck with the story and there were moments of writing brilliance and the narrator had some moments when she was actually competent. I suppose the answer to that question depends on how much you like lez fiction and how much you already have.

    "Great Story!"

    The story was great!
I loved the ability of the characters to use music as metaphors. Jazz is an amazing source of story and emotion.
Character voice consistency is so very important to audio adaptation of a stories words. Jac, dad, Hannah, etc. were all consistent. Liz went from high or alto to basso when she was away from Jac, almost like listening to Jac speaking Liz's parts. For that matter, opposite female voices sounded like Jac or one of the males. It was distracting. Otherwise, I say again, it is a great story.

    "Great story"

I loved the story, the characters were well developed and interesting. But the narrator gave a robotic voice to Jack, and I didn’t like that, I understand that she wanted to portray someone who is reclusive but it was too much... I would have preferred she read in one voice without changing for the different characters.

    Story
"The Pity Party that never wants to end!"

I didn't give this one star bc I was at least able to finish it, but not without using fast forward several times.

First, the narration is terrible. Besides using the worst stereotyped voice of "husky brooding lesbian" for one main character, her transition between characters was clunky. The narrator whines her way thru the majority of the book's seemingly unending wallow of both main characters. Only to read the sex scenes like she just hiked a mountain with emphysema.

The story was predictable and slow. If you removed all of the repetitive, self-deprecating lamenting over "should I or shouldn't I?" you'd be left with a very short story. If any two actual people spent the amount of time and childishness that these send women spend dodging around each other in denial, they would need therapy and not a relationship. After the 20th time of hearing about your "guilt trip", I'm over it.

I recommend this book only as a last resort for a good wallow in self-pity.

    "Loved it!!"

I really loved this book it was slow in some spots but made up for that in others. Highly recommend this book to anyone who read it. I have read a lot of lesbian romance Books over the past year and this has been 1 0f my favorites. The narrator makes all the difference in the world.

    "nicely done "

all in all a good story. two women having their own problems. one fighting the loss of her lover the other trapped in the dark of blindness caused by an acident 10 years prior thus ending her music career.
the women accidentally meet and a friendship forms and there love of music draws them closer and closer until they finally are able to forget the past and realize there is love after tradgidy.
as for the narrator she did a fairly decent job however at times you really did not know which character was speaking. this was a slight distraction but not enough to hurt the storytelling.

    "Great story"

The story is well written and full of emotion. It would be even better with a good narrator. Unfortunately this narrator only had two voices. Without a good narrator a lot of the emotion in the story is lost. I became invested in the characters despite the poor narration so I wanted to finish the book. If you can look past the poor narration it's a wonderful story.

"Hard for me to get through"

The narrator did not have a bad voice just not good with multiple characters. The sound of Jacks voice made me cringe. The phrasings were weak and also made me wince a little. Maybe good listen for a teenager.

    "Good but overlong"

Pentially quite a moving story. Not a good narrator has a dislikeable strange tone. Have only read this one, not sure if I'd try again. Essentially about 10 chapters too long, very repetitive and at times frustrating because it's hashing and rambling on the same subject. Not a book I'd ever revisit.
