Story
Have you ever wondered if plants could help improve your allergy symptoms? Have you studied foraging, but you’re looking to learn more about edible and medicinal plants? Do you wish you had a better understanding of herbalism and what it can do for you? Herbalism is one of the oldest forms of medicine in the world. It is what our modern medicine is built upon, yet more people are afraid of it. While one should not completely erase modern medicine from their lives, because it does serve a purpose, it is possible to take care of some minor problems through the use of herbs.

Reese Witherspoon’s grandmother Dorothea always said a combination of beauty and strength made Southern women “whiskey in a teacup”. We may be delicate and ornamental on the outside, she said, but inside, we’re strong and fiery. Reese’s Southern heritage informs her whole life, and she loves sharing the joys of Southern living with practically everyone she meets. She takes the South wherever she goes with bluegrass, big holiday parties, and plenty of Dorothea’s fried chicken.

It is a garden with roots in the American past, stretching back to George Washington, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, but it is also a garden very much designed for America's future. As fresh vegetables, fruit, and herbs sprouted from the ground, this White House Kitchen Garden inspired a new conversation all across the country about the food we feed our families and the impact it has on the health and well-being of our children.

Overall I enjoy this for light entertainment
Not all that well written. Who was her editor who allowed "inevitably" and "truth be told" to be repeated so many times? However I appreciate some of her insights into a modern life in the country. Her descriptions show she pays attention to nature, something so few modern writers do. And then I like her comments on sharing a life working from home with her husband, for example, which are especially relevant today. I enjoy dipping into this book or audio every once in a while when I need some inspiration, as she seems like someone who always has a project going and an interest in life, and she has a knack for beautiful things arranged beautifully. (As an aside I do wish she would keep politics off her instagram page. Why are politics being pushed into every arena, the arts, fashion, etc. I am very much behind the old idea of keeping politics and religion away from the "dinner table" - I need a break, politics ruin everything!)
PS - A day after submitting my audio book review, I saw a political post of hers was fact-checked and deleted from her instagram account because it was false. Like I said I do wish she would keep her (false) politics off instagram, it is detrimental to her "brand". Thankfully her politics don't really figure in this book!
