Resumen del Editor

In this warm collection of personal essays and recipes, best-selling author Ann Hood nourishes both our bodies and our souls. From her Italian-American childhood through raising and feeding a growing family and cooking with her new husband, food writer Michael Ruhlman, Ann Hood has long appreciated the power of a good meal. Growing up, she tasted love in her grandmother's tomato sauce and dreamed of her mother's special-occasion Fancy Lady Sandwiches. Later, the kitchen became the heart of Hood's own home. She cooked pork roast to warm her first apartment, used two cups of dried basil for her first attempt at making pesto, taught her children how to make their favorite potatoes, found hope in her daughter's omelet after a divorce, and fell in love again - with both her husband and his foolproof chicken stock.

With her signature humor and tenderness, Hood details all these recipes and more in Kitchen Yarns, along with tales of loss and starting from scratch, family love, and feasts with friends, and how the perfect meal is one that tastes like home.

Heartfelt stories, tantalizing recipes

The personal stories were touching and encouraging. Hearing the recipes read aloud was a bit tedious, but the food sounded tantalizing. Even though the performer’s voice was soothing, it was too young for Ms. Hood at this time in her life; and I was dismayed by the performer’s mispronunciation of several words, such as Le Creuset and the surname Welty. The production needed to be overseen for such details.

Recipes

As an audible listener I think a PDF file of Ann’s recipes would be most helpful, I enjoyed hearing her Stories

Self-agrandizing and meandering

Narration was fine, just a few words mispronounced. No real story here and the recipes were nothing spectacular. The Author is not particularly likable or relatible. The writing is straightforward with very little emotion, even though much of the stories she tells are very emotional. I would get it in print or kindle if you are interested in the recipes. Other than that, I would pass this one by.

ordinary

recipes not that interesting. parenting stories better suited for a private diary or journal. just like every parents life. picky toddler. missing a child who goes away to college. buying ikea furniture with unusual names. just ordinary. performance was too dramatic...as if trying to make someone's normal daily routine interesting. probably better as a book to get the recipes rather than audible and to more easily skip the pedestrian story line
