Publisher's Summary

It all started with the bereavement flowers with my name on them.

Not the best way to wake up, right? I work in a flower shop. I know a funeral arrangement when I see one.

I know a killer when I see one, too. And one is standing in my hospital room right now, straight behind the man who saved my life.

I can’t tell anyone the truth, because that’s the fastest way to really die. So I do the next best thing. I “lose” my memory.

I fake my amnesia.

Pretending not to remember a brutal attempted murder has its perks. The killer is backing down, spending less time around me, loosening the noose.

The less I claim to recall, the more my rescuer, Duff, works to help me “remember”. I hate lying to him.

But he doesn’t understand that my memory is dangerous. To me. And to him.

Fooling everyone isn’t easy. It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done.

Except it’s starting to look like I’ve been fooling myself.

In more ways than one.

Read Book 1 in the newest series from USA Today best-selling author Meli Raine.

“...intrigue and dark humor on display in this thriller....”

While the immediate - and more compelling - tension in Raine’s (A Shameless Little Bet, 2018, etc.) heart-pumping series opener comes from Lily’s constant proximity to her would-be killer, the action takes place against a backdrop of secret government scandals.

Fortunately, Lily’s voice is captivating, wry, and tough enough to sell this thriller. The novel ends with a cliffhanger that startles, if only because readers will have become so attached to Lily. (Kirkus Reviews)

Praise for Meli Raine’s books:

“Fresh, riveting, and thrumming with emotion and romantic suspense, False Memory is absolutely unputdownable. You need this book!” (New York Times best-selling author Meghan March)

“I accidentally lost a day to this trilogy! It is unputdownable. Apparently I'm on a dark-and-twisty binge, and this book is addictive.” (USA Today best-selling author Sarina Bowen (Harmless series)

False Memory

Wow, not what I expected, but I could not turn it off. A little slow to start, but the suspense will keep you wanting more. Andi Arndt is amazing as always. I highly recommend if you was looking for a suspenseful romance. Beware there is a cliffhanger.

I wanted to like it

I don’t know if it’s me but this is the 3rd book in a week I just couldn’t finish. The narration is great but the story is so boring. The description seemed interesting but the internal dialogue was way too much. I have little patience for a story that’s majorly internal dialogue. I can’t stand it.

Unbelievable story and cliffhanger to boot

Narration was good and the details of recovering from a gunshot wound to the head and cons were somewhat interesting but grueling too. The plot doesn't hold up. No one would allow a killer to run loose and not tell the cops and the security detail is an unnamed force that is not explained. And then it just ends in a cliffhanger. Not for me.

Just BAD!

Good lord this was excruciating! Thought the premise sounded interesting. By someone who could actually write, maybe. This read like a high school effort. The most egregious assault was the over-use of similes. If one was good,5 must be great. “Like a ...” is beat into the script ad nauseam. The fact she couldn’t say who shot her also was repeated over and over and .....making this horror show 3 hours longer than need be.We are also never given a clear reason WHY this happened, just little pieces that made no sense. I wound up skipping over every few chapters but never advanced in the story. Will def not be continuing this sophomoric series.

So entertaining!

I found this book thanks to the romance package’s blind date with a book and I was not disappointed. It was unique and engaging. Granted I don’t read a lot of romantic suspense books so maybe it’s not that unique. Regardless, I was hooked from the first page and can’t wait to dive into the next in the series.

this is told terribly

This story is so long winded. it takes the author an entire paragraph just to tell maybe 3 words that are actually relevant to the story. And when you skip to the ending, it's just so the author can sell you another book. ugh. Don't waste your time.

"INTRIQUED"

Meli Raine is an amazing writer. The storyline opens up, and the visuals and descriptions provided or so clear and precise, you feel like you're right there. The pace of the story is perfect I also loved that Lily wasn't some simpering, pathetic little miss. She had fight and bite. Throughout the book, Good mysteries, for me, are hard to find. However, throughout this read, I continuously checked off possible shooters. Duff, coffee shop friend, Silas, and Dad (yep). By the end of book 1, Jane and Romeo remain suspects, though, I doubt Romeo is the shooter...that would be too easy.

Definitely read book 2.

Part 1 of a trilogy

Part 1 of the 'False' trilogy, False Memory is a contemporary suspense thriller.

We start with Lily in a coma, and follow the journey of her recovery from a murder attempt on her life. Not only does Lily have the challenge of recovering from her injuries and the effort this takes, but the man who did this to her is continuously hovering around.

This was a slow burn audio. There was plenty of tension, which gradually increased the further into the story we went. Lily fakes amnesia to save her life, but we know there is an ever present threat. The story concludes on a nail-biting cliffhanger. A strong start to the trilogy.

Great but……

Intriguing story though rather short. I can’t understand why it’s a trilogy. I’m sure it could have been put into 1 book. Not sure I want to use 2 more credits to find out what happens

Brilliant

I loved this- I couldn't put it down.
A lot of the story is told through Lily's inner dialogue as she lies in a coma but is aware of the people and the conversations around her. The author builds up a great deal of tension as Lily realises that one of the people guarding her room is her attacker.
I was riveted! It was also obvious that this book is a spin-off from another series but you are given enough information to piece together the events leading up to the shooting.
It ends in a cliff hanger so I've downloaded the next book to see what happens next.
I voluntarily reviewed a gifted copy.

WOW!! A powerful beginning to this series

I listened to the whole of this story non stop. It was so gripping to see Lily trying her best to be understood but at the same time avoiding giving herself away to the person who she believes shot her. I'm definitely going to listen to the rest of the series. Deserves 10 stars.

Intensely real

An amazingly detailed account of what it is like for someone to recover from a traumatic head injury. I was moved beyond words at the depth of understanding the author showed. A well written and first book in this series. And the actor reading it was spot on!
