Maverick and Baylee

Falling Stars is the second book in the Wild At Heart series. It can be read as a standalone. This is a delightful best friends to lovers second chance romance between Baylee and Maverick. They have been best friends since childhood but have been more distant lately. Due to circumstances beyond her control, Baylee is staying in Maverick’s condo. Maverick is injured and recovering in New York until he decides to go home. They are now together day in, day out with Maverick helping her with Leo. Will they finally realize they are in love and meant to be together?
The dual narration by Ruby Corazon and Michael Gallagher was spectacular. Ruby Corazon was brilliant as sweet, sassy single mom, Baylee. Michael Gallagher was delightful as charming, kind, protective Maverick. I highly recommend listening to this fabulous audiobook.

I loved this book so much. Did it stress me tf out? Yes. I loved Mav and Bay’s connection. Even though we started off a little rocky, they were always meant to be…written in the stars so to speak. The way Mav would drop anything for Bay and her precious Leo is so swoony. They are the best parents. I was worried the whole time that Mav’s injury was just going to get worse, but the twist at the end was even scarier than that!

Michael and Ruby did incredible on this narration. I don’t think I’ve listened to either of them before and they were both fantastic. I’m definitely going to be keeping my eyes open for more from them.

I really enjoyed Bailey, the FMC in the first book in this series but she doesn’t disappoint as a single mother to a baby boy who after some money issues started staying at the MMC Maverick rental property a condo in the small town, while Maverick after a crushing NFL accident hides in his rental property only to find his old best friend already there. I really liked how she put herself and her son first through out the story, I liked how they dealt with the babies bio dad and not just made him into the bad guy). I really loved the third act and the suspense that was woven into the story, I have read Lex Martin’s backlist backwards and coming back to her current voice and writing style she has really grown leaps and bounds with these latest romance suspense series!

Have you ever liked a fmc in there book but then you read them in the next books and find them lacking? The fmc Paige, from the first book (which i really enjoyed) fell flat as a friend her actions show that she’s tries to help but then seems to always back track before actually helping ( I mean I’m sorry but how long does it take to clean out a trailer). Also after loving her mother in the first book I really didn’t love her in this story she didn’t feel like a pillar of support for Bailey. I found Lex Martin with her football “Varsity Dad’s” series which was great however this latest series has really been great and original with the girls being gone for the guys first!! And the suspense aspect was a very pleasant surprise! I do hope that all the brothers including the one in South America get there own book in this series!

Maverick and Baylee were childhood friends up until a kiss gone wrong between best friends in high school. They went along as if nothing happened, but things never were really the same. Maverick went on to a successful college career and a first round NFL draft pick. Baylee stayed home and watched from afar while she managed her family’s beauty salon and worked tirelessly to support everyone.

Without spoiling anything, circumstances occur and Baylee finds herself a single mom and sharing Maverick’s condo when he comes home to rehab from a serious injury. Their chemistry is as strong as ever but their road to an HEA is anything but easy. Baylee is fiercely independent and stubborn to her core. She is so used to shouldering everything, she has a difficult time accepting any help. Maverick’s love language is to provide anything Baylee could need or want, much to her disapproval. Throw in outside sources causing problems via vandalism, ex’s nosing around, anonymous threats, and their time together having an expiration date and no idea of what’s next. They have a lot to work out, and I liked the way it was handled.

Dual narration by Ruby Corazon and Michael Gallagher. Both are new to me narrators and they were fantastic. They really delivered on the highs and lows these characters go through. Plus, all the additional characters when we get to revisit the Walker siblings, Paige and the ladies at the salon.

This is a great addition to the series. It’s book two but can absolutely be enjoyed as a standalone. I can’t wait to see what’s next for the Walker brothers.
