Story
When the pandemic hit, nobody was expecting it to be as bad as it was. The economy barely survived the lockdowns, but it staggered along until civil unrest shattered people’s hope of better times to come. With it being an election year, more and more Americans were waking up to the idea that they truly were behind the curve. The hope was if they did not get sick, run out of money, or could avoid violent mobs, they would be fine.

Lauren Russell often wondered why her father had been so adamant about teaching her skills that most other fathers wouldn't even consider teaching their daughters. Ever since she was little, she had been taught how to live and survive outdoors, and how to use firearms to protect herself and those around her. Some of the training had been a bit extreme. Or had it been? Many of her questions were answered the day the world as she knew it ended.

Publisher's Summary
Family is all that matters when friend becomes foe, and the stakes are survival.
The world has become a dangerous place for Shane McDonald and his family since the solar storm wiped out the power grid. Tensions flare when it grows clear the dire situation will be prolonged and most are ill-prepared.
Even the friendly small town of his prepper mother-in-law has drawn unwanted attention as word gets around about sharing their supply stores. And strangers begin to infiltrate the once peaceful Georgia community.
All Shane can think about is where his wife and son ended up in all the chaos as the hours stretch into days since they last communicated. Jodi is far too trusting a soul, and her desire to help the downtrodden is a dangerous commodity among desperate and increasingly hostile citizens.
But Jodi isn’t without resources when push comes to shove. When her son and cancer-stricken brother come under attack, she finds the strength to do what’s necessary to ensure their safety and inadvertently draws the attention of a menacing gang.
Now, they must stay one step ahead of their pursuers in a race to reunite with family. Before all hell rains down on them.

Post-Apocalyptic Family Reunion
'Fallen World' is Grace Hamilton's second installment of her post-CME family saga. This book has solidified the series as my favorite among Ms Hamilton's end-of-the-world tales that I've listened to/read. I was excited to receive a free review copy of this audiobook, at my request, and am happily posting this voluntary review.
The action of Book 2 begins immediately after the semi-cliffhanger of Book 1. The McDonald family is not completely reunited at Jodi's mother's house. Shane and Violet have arrived in time to help Beth escape her captors. Jodi, Mike and Owen are still making their way to Macon, where they deal with several problems of their own. Can they all make it to Beth's refuge?
In this book, Grace Hamilton has written an even more suspenseful and action-packed story than the first. Several scenes offer the nail-biting tension expected in a post-apocalyptic survival story. All of the main characters find themselves in dangerous situations.
As much as I love a good action-y post apocalypse, the characterization is even more interesting. Ms Hamilton writes a family dynamic that is believable. The characters show their naivete at first, but slowly come to the realization that civilization as they know it is gone and they must adjust accordingly. Jodi, Beth and Shane in particular come to this conclusion in individual ways. I'm also anxious to see how the characters' attempt at organizing their neighborhood will play out as the series goes along.
Once again narration by Chris Montero is great. I like the different character interpretations, especially considering the age range of the characters.
Highly recommended.

can't wait.....
can't wait for these people to get the lead out of their asses and grow some brain cells and ovary up! they need to realize that the shot has hit the fan and all the "rules" have gone out the window! thinking that any form of government is going to swoop in and save them is just down right moronic, especially when it comes to bigger law enforcement agencies coming in and taking pike off their hands... just let go of what the world was before and do what NEEDS to be done to protect themselves and their families. and if taking out scumb bags that would obviously have no issue taking out a 14 yr blind girl is what needs to be done.... FRIGGIN DO IT! period.

Take it up a notch!
Early on we learn that Shane and Violet find their way back to mother-in-law’s house without much more effort. Jodi, Mike, and Owen were not so lucky. Through bad luck and carelessness, our trio gets carjacked. Jodi’s luck dries up. Mike and Owen spend the rest of the night looking for Jodi. Jodi turns out to be the courageous one of the family while Mike is pretty helpless and Shane is straight-laced and wimpy for the most part. The idiotic things people do always bug me in these types of stories. Either people deny the situation that they are in or they do really stupid things. I suppose if they didn’t it wouldn’t allow for much of a story. The carjackers supply plenty of material to fulfill the rest of the volume. Hopefully, Jodi, Mike, and Owen eventually get home safely. WOW! Must read series of the year!
The first audiobook that I ever listened to by Grace Hamilton was a free audiobook, and I instantly became hooked! I have loved all of her audiobooks so far, and am definitely her number 1 fan! Her talent for writing interesting, intriguing, suspenseful, and amazing books is incredible! Her creativity, resourcefulness, and research also make for a very believable book, with characters you can easily like, relate to, and even dislike. I predict that it will only be a matter of time before some of her books are made into movies or series - that’s how great they are! Fallen World, the second in Surviving the End- is no different. It’s mind blowing and fantastic!
Shane McDonald’s family had to learn how to cope instantly after the solar storm wiped out the power grid. Although some people thought it was a problem that would be easily be resolved, others started to feel the need to become more prepared for the longer lasting effects. It didn’t take long for the overall population to realize what an emergency crisis it was. Shane’s mother in law lived in a town that was slightly more prepared, so Shane was initially hopeful that things were a little better off in her area, but it doesn’t take long for disaster to strike in her town as well when people start realizing there are resources there. Shane is willing to do whatever it takes to get back to his wife and son, and he’s confident and hopeful, but things only take a turn for the worse. Jodi is too trusting of people, and although she is only trying to help, it times like these it puts her at an even greater risk. There aren’t any limits to what she wouldn’t do to protect her son and her brother though when they are threatened. Unfortunately it leads to more trouble as she gains more enemies by doing so. Altogether, it is a race against time, survival, and the strong ties of families to see if they can find their loved ones, stay together, and find a way of living in a world most people weren’t prepared for. Thank you Grace Hamilton and audiobookboom for this free review copy. My review is voluntary and expresses my honest opinion. I absolutely LOVED this book, and cant wait to get started on the next one. Do yourself a favor and start one of her series...you’ll be hooked!

Good second book
this is a good secund book on the series, a lot happens and it definitely keeps you on your toes. My only complaint is again like the first book the characters are painfully naive, but the author uses this tool a lot to drive the plot forward. I'll definitely listen the next book when it comes out. I was given this book for free in exchange for my unbiased review.

Enjoyed the entire book in less than 2 days!
After being left on a cliff hanger following the first book in the series, I was grateful to finally get my hands on the sequel. Between the first and this audiobook, I found this series to be entertaining and enjoyable. Storyline and character development were well done, as was the performance of the narrator. I'm looking forward to the third installment.

Good continuation
This is a great continuation of the series. I enjoyed this more than the first book although both were pretty good. The characters are in for a wild ride and this is written in the style of two storylines merging at the perfect point. You can clearly tell who the good guys are and who the bad guys are. You just love to hate the good guys sometimes but overall the characters are very well developed and you learn to like them as the book progresses. I will warn you, this is the middle of a series and there is a cliffhanger ending but overall I was satisfied at how the book ended and also excited to see where it goes next. The performance was consistent with the first book and followed a very similar path. I enjoyed the character voices, both male and female were done very nicely. Looking forward to the series and hopefully the narrator continues alongside with the series. Bring on book 3! I was provided a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review from audiobook boom. This in no way affect my opinion of this work.

Typical dystopian fiction
As with so many stories in this genre, there's a lot of contrived action arising out of stupid, unrealistic decisions made by the compelling characters in this story. Although it's open-ended, it does not end in a cliffhanger.
Again, Chris Monteiro performs this second audiobook in the series well.
