When a former pop star enrolls in college, the last thing she expects is A-plus chemistry with her psychology professor in this sexy and tender romance from #1 New York Times bestselling author Rachel Lynn Solomon.

“This is Rachel Lynn Solomon at her absolute best: a moving love story between two people learning to trust not only the good in each other, but in themselves.”—Ellen O’Clover, author of The Heartbreak Hotel

Ramona Wilder has spent her whole life in the spotlight. After a hit kids’ TV show, she transitioned into music, singing in arenas around the world and becoming an icon for millions of teenage girls. Now at age twenty-six, exhausted by the inhumane lack of privacy, she’s done—with all of it. She wants a chance at normal, whatever that might mean for her. And she’s starting with college.

Professor Nick Navarro is recently divorced but determinedly optimistic, allowing himself a very reasonable ten minutes per day to wallow. When his department calls a meeting about a celebrity enrollment, he plans to treat whoever it is like any other student. Except when Ramona blazes into class and causes an uproar, the typically easygoing professor is rattled, maybe for the first time in his career.

Ramona loves the way she flusters him, taking every opportunity to push Nick’s buttons, though what she really wants is to unbutton them completely. When a crisis brings them closer outside of class, they begin a tentative friendship amid an undeniable attraction. But Ramona can’t be so easily finished with her old life, and they’ll both have to confront their pasts if they want a chance at something real.

Extracurricular by Rachel Lynn Solomon

4.5⭐️ | 4🌶️

I enjoyed this book from the very beginning. The pacing of the backstory and setup felt just right. It was brief enough to pull me into the story quickly while still giving me everything I needed to connect with the characters. I immediately felt connected to Ramona, and I was so glad to see her standing up for herself and refusing to settle for less.

When I first started reading, I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about the third person perspective since I’m so used to first person. It took me a chapter or two to settle into it, but once I did, it never bothered me again. It was simply an adjustment.

What surprised me most was how vulnerable this story made me feel. I found myself relating to Ramona in ways I wasn’t expecting, and Rachel Lynn Solomon wrote her with so much heart that she always felt authentic. Even as a celebrity, Ramona never felt larger than life. She remained grounded, relatable, and wonderfully human.

Nick is such a fantastic character, and I absolutely loved the romance. Their relationship developed naturally, and I never questioned why they fell for each other. It felt genuine, authentic, and easy to root for. Their chemistry sizzles almost immediately, and the spice was fantastic without ever overshadowing the emotional connection between them.

This book is also genuinely funny. The banter had me smiling constantly, and both Ramona and Nick are hilarious, quick-witted, and just enough of a smartass to make every interaction entertaining. Their personalities bounced off each other effortlessly, and the humor added so much charm to an already heartfelt romance.

What really stayed with me, though, was how moving this story is. I finished it feeling full of love and empathy. So much about Ramona feels deeply human, flaws and all, and I loved watching Nick cultivate that side of her. He never tried to change who she was. Instead, he created the kind of space where she could let her guard down and simply be herself. Watching that unfold was one of my favorite parts of the entire book.

This was one of those books I couldn’t stop thinking about. Every spare moment throughout my day, I found myself reaching for it just to sneak in another chapter. That’s always the sign of a great read for me.

I also have to give a shoutout to Nelson Hobbs and Ellie Gossage. They did a phenomenal job bringing this story to life. I thought they both captured the essence of their characters beautifully, and their performances elevated an already emotional and heartfelt story.

This was my first Rachel Lynn Solomon novel, but it definitely won’t be my last. I can’t wait to read more from her.
