Story
The world crashed to pieces on June 23rd and Adrian Ring wasn't anywhere near ready for it. He had no guns, no food, no friends around, a cat that wanted to slip out the back of the condo and a girlfriend trapped in the heart of the city. This is the story of how he survived. Real, flawed, and raw, Dark Recollections is Adrian's own story of how he survived after "That Day". Told through his eyes as he talks to his laptop, affectionately named "Mr. Journal".

It was just a random mutation - one of a billion that happen in viruses every day. But this one was different. It exploded out of Somalia and spread across the oceans before anybody thought to look up from their cell phones to see what was going on. The infected breathed the virus into the air around them, spreading it through the cities faster than anyone thought possible. Hospitals were overwhelmed. Police lines crumbled. Quarantine sites disintegrated. Cities started to collapse.

Publisher's Summary
From the barrier islands of South Carolina to the scenic shores of Lake Norman in North Carolina and a hospital ship sailing alone in the Atlantic Ocean, the infected dead have destroyed most of the population of the world. Small groups of people band together, some with leaders who take their people down the road toward death and some with leaders who make the decisions that keep their followers alive.
This is the continuing story of the Mud Island survivors who have a plan to save a small part of humanity. As they live on in a shelter that is the dream of every survivalist, they find they must venture out into the world once again to help a lost friend, braving not only the infection, but radioactive fallout from a nuclear reactor, and the groups of survivors who are ready to take from them everything they have, including their lives.

Wonderful book - wonderful series - give it a try!
Boy am I hooked on this series. I have binge listened and have already downloaded book 5. I am aware that the next two books are not on audible yet and that disturbs me. I absolutely know that I want to continue until the end of the series, so I will have to go to Amazon to download the written versions. The narrator is excellent and I will miss listening to him, but I cannot wait until audible puts out books 6 and 7, so I will read them.
The main characters in Infected Dead series are extremely likable, Some new characters are introduced in Exist for Now and most are great additions. The ones that are not so nice get what they deserve. Some reviewers complain that the characters are too lucky, but I am thrilled by their luck. I get discouraged listening to other End of The World series where everything goes bad all the time. It is enjoyable to listen to this series where things mostly go well. Don't get me wrong - sometimes in Infected Dead some things do go wrong, but it is not all the time and not overwhelmingly horrible.
I strongly suggest you give this series a try - start with book 1. I have listened to almost 2000 books on audible and I find this series to be in the top ten percent. It is entertaining, interesting, and filled with great characters. The author and narrator are great. I live in South Carolina, always have, and am very familiar with the towns and landmarks featured in this series. That makes it so much fun! I also have a special connection to the various bridges and highways mentioned in the books and that is exciting for me. Thank you Bob Howard!!!!

Story
Set on the coast of South Carolina, an unknown infection has caused people to die and come back to life as reanimated corpses, attacking any living person. This is the story of the survival of one man who was the benefactor of a shelter that helped him to live through the onslaught of the infected dead. Beginning with the initial days of the apocalypse, Ed Jackson watches the world die from the safety of his shelter, but there are others who are also trying to stay alive as they seek refuge. He must decide who he will take into his shelter and who he will reject.
