Amazing!!!!!!!!

This book is so good and Joel Clarkson did a fantastic job at narrating but what is the pilgrims real name that is the only question that is left too be answered S. D. Smith made kind of a big deal out of it in the last chapters but then didn’t say who the he was but I still love this book amazing!!! 📖👌

Who’s your favorite character??

I LOVE how Smith can make the characters seem so real! My favorites are Smalls, Heyna, Cole, Jo, and Weezie. Their characters are so diverse, and my heart was literally broken when Smith “killed” Smalls. I would start crying whenever the book mentioned him. And lots not even talk about Henya. Wow. She is strong, brave, regal, just, kind, funny, smart, athletic... And Weezie is brave, Loyal, smart, kind, and funny. And Cole is brave, strong, smart, talented, funny, just, and regal when necessary. Jo is mainly funny, but is also kind, loyal, brave, talented, and kind. S,D.Smith you are truly talented.

Falls short of the first three books.

I would like to preface my review by saying the first three books were fantastic and deserving of high praise. However I felt that this book fell far short of the first three. (WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD)

Firstly this book, intending to be the grand finale of the tale, is quite dependent upon the lore that is read in other side stories that are written by Mr. Smith. Where the previous three books enthralled me with their inherent lore and story building, I felt that I was missing something in the fourth. There were several things I found to be... Abrupt. The fact that Smalls and Heather ended up in a cavern and managed to conveniently find weapons of legendary quality and proceed to slaughter "countless" dragons was stretching reality. I felt that Heather's role in the third book was far diminished and left me wanting more. The constant strategy of fighting and how the battle progressed was too lengthy in mundane details, and not enough in moments where a major opponent was being fought against. The wolf-king, for instance. The fight could have lasted a little longer than Pick's signature one-strike kill move. Or Joe, slaying two preylords at once with a well-placed shot.

There was a lot of fighting. A LOT. In the previous three books, there was a lot of intrigue and story building, even mentioning the rabbits in the main villiain's lair. I would like to have known more about them and their efforts even after Heather's departure. We didn't get more story on the inner-wallers and how they would react to the gathering.

All in all, I felt that this book was rushed.. incomplete. There is so much more that could have been written. There could have easily been a fifth book with all the world building and character investments. The finale, I am sad to say, wasn't as exciting as I think it could have been.

In conclusion, I still find value in Mr. Smith's telling of the end, but I find myself unsatisfied. I also think the inherent dependence on other books not in line with the main series to really grasp the depth of the 4th book is a little disappointing. I will go and read/listen the other side stories, then re-enjoy the full 4 volumes yet again and re-approach this review.

Awesome for the second time!

My 12-year-old son and I have listened to these stories twice in the last year. We also listened to all the other stories by SD. Smith.
Great fantasy with wonderful characters and original, twisting plot.
