Publisher's summary

Sent into exile once more, Don Rodrigo de Vivar has just Will Redbeard and two warriors for companions. Over the next years, he creates the legend of El Cid, defeating enemy after enemy. Fighting overwhelming odds, he succeeds every time until, at last, he has his fiefdom of Valencia.

This is the final chronicle in the series and details the last 18 years of the life of the man known as El Cid. Although this is the last in the series, it is a standalone book. Forget the film and listen to the reality of the man who was the greatest knight of his age - some would say, any age!

Riveting series chronicling the life of El CID

Incredibly enthralling series on El acid, Don Rodrigo de Vivar. I was minimally aware of Don Rodrigo’s accomplishments, but following listening to this series, it prompted me to research even further the life of this man. There are few people in the history of mankind whose influence changed the course of their people and history, “El CID” is one of those. Without his counsel, bravery, military mind, and understanding of man, the nation of Spain would have never emerged to be what it became to developing the West and Christianity. Such an influential presence should be revered for their accomplishments. He was a man of vision!

Cornwell he isn't.

I struggled with the poor grammar and repetition of the same word to describe the same thing in successive sentences. The narrator tried his best with accents and characterisation but I felt at times he just wanted to get the reading over with and I didn't blame him.
I struggled through to the end only because I wanted to know how the author would end it, knowing as I do something of this historical character. It seems he ended it as close to the 1960 movie as he could, and it struck me also that his central character was inspired by El Cid's right hand man in that movie.
Oh well, once bitten twice shy as they say.
Mick the Hick.

stunning

rarely a series gets better but this has been a journey of one man's vision to support all faiths inside his country, taking the man and not his colour or belief. there is love friendship jealousy and betrayal, along with battles lge and small graphically described, and I feel even the narration (4.9) is better than previous. the story of one man's life and how WE should judge others.
