Throughout history, women have been crucial to the growth and flourishing of the church. Historian Michael A. G. Anne Steele: The great hymn writer whose work continues to help the church worship in song today.

Margaret Baxter: The faithful wife to pastor Richard Baxter who met persecution with grace and joy.

Esther Edwards Burr: The daughter of Jonathan Edwards whose life modeled biblical friendship.

Anne Dutton: The innovative author whose theological works left a significant literary legacy.

Ann Judson: The wife of Adoniram Judson and pioneer missionary in the American evangelical missions movement.

Sarah Edwards: The wife of Jonathan Edwards and model of sincere delight in Christ.

Jane Austen: The prolific novelist with a deep and sincere Christian faith that she expressed in her stories.

Hard Copy Recommended

I chose this Audible version instead of ordering the book in print thinking it would be easier to get into each section if I listened to someone else tell the story. Nope! Too much detail. You either need to go back 30 seconds (constantly) to catch the fullness of the biography and stay invested, or you need to be able to see the names, places, order of events, etc. in print.

Bottom line, listening to the book, I feel lost in detail and wish that I was able to see the page!

Remarkable field of characters

I was pleasantly surprised with the breadth of stations and homely situations from which the women came who were the focus of this book. Also pleased that the author stretched himself to make the choices he did. Detailed dating of every person mentioned was a little wearying and interruptive to the train of thought one was asked to follow and I had to suppress that style to keep my focus. Best read in single chapters to avoid almost unavoidable confusion of subjects in my mind. Good read and encouraging.
