A party of adventurers must brave the horrors of Ravenloft in this official Dungeons & Dragons novel!

Five strangers armed with steel and magic awaken in a mist-shrouded land, with no memory of how they arrived: Rotrog, a prideful orcish wizard; Chivarion, a sardonic drow barbarian; Alishai, an embittered tiefling paladin; Kah, a skittish kenku cleric; and Fielle, a sunny human artificer.

After they barely survive a nightmarish welcome to the realm of Barovia, a carriage arrives bearing an invitation:

Fairest Friends,

I pray you accept my humble Hospitality and dine with me tonight at Castle Ravenloft. It is rare we receive Visitors, and I do so Endeavor to Make your Acquaintance. The Carriage shall bear you to the Castle safely, and I await your Arrival with Pleasure.

Your host,
Strahd von Zarovich

With no alternative, and determined to find their way home, the strangers accept the summons and travel to the forbidding manor of the mysterious count. But all is not well at Castle Ravenloft. To survive the twisted enigmas of Strahd and his haunted home, the adventurers must confront the dark secrets in their own hearts and find a way to shift from strangers to comrades—before the mists of Barovia claim them forever.

I bought this book as I love curse of strahd. the story is a bit scatterbrained due to the multiple viewpoints but a solid story.

Interesting story

The narration was very good and I also liked how the book expanded outside of Barovia.

Good narration with multiple domains

The setting and descriptions of Barovia and the domains of dread were fantastically creepy. The depictions of Castle Ravenloft were excellent and scary. The characters were not great, but just ok. The length of the book didn’t lead to a lot of character development and you get a brief glimpse of back story for each character of their worst moments, but not enough to make you feel much for them. The detour to the domain of dread hurt the book with the limited page count. The story feels hurried, especially the ending. This book would’ve been better with 100 more pages.

Good setting and ambience, but story was hurried and characters just ok.

I loved the story the author came up with and thought it was a great twist to involve more than one domain of dread. I’m trying not to give any spoilers here, so you’ll have to listen to the book to find out what other domain is involved and how. Loved it! I did think the narrator had some small issues, like giving a main character and a supporting character accents like they were from Texas. Odd, but ok. Then some of the Barovian characters had accents that sounded like you’d expect, even Strahd’s main servant, but Strahd and others have kind of a French accent. . . Very odd, hahahaha! Yet, she did an amazing job with other characters. Overall a very good performance, with some small things that took me out of the vibe of the story here and there. This story did a great job of carrying on the story and adventure I grew up with, having played the first Strahd campaign and following it every time something new has come out. I am very much hoping that the author writes a sequel, and now I really will want the narrator to come back just so it feels familiar when I listen. Quirky, but familiar, ha! If you give this book a listen I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Great addition to the story!

Delilah Dawson is one of my favorite authors for media tie ins. she rights villains spectacularly. no one in this book is a "good" person but they are all fantastic characters.

fantastic cast of characters
