About this listen

Number four, Callum Duquette. Placekicker for the Boston Tomcats. Former underwear model. Nickname: Duke.

I thought the most annoying thing about being a single dad was that my friends were always trying to find me a date. Until a sassy British ray of sunshine bumps into me at a bookstore. One accidental butt grab, a viral photo, and a lot of misunderstandings later, I find myself in a fake relationship with a movie star.

Now I’ve got my friends off my back, but the cheeky Brit has complicated my life even more.

She calls me the duke of Grumpville. I call her movies the end of civilization as we know it.

She calls my job “the wrong kind of football”. I call her the one thing on Earth that can make me lose focus and control.

It’s getting harder to pretend I still want this to end after my team’s game in London.

I thought we were only faking it. But getting to know the real Millie Darden changed everything.

Yes, I am all about Chloe and her amazing wit, her real look at teenage life and ability to use social media to get where she wants to be in her young life. But she is only one piece of this amazing team for this fun, romance comedy! Duke is the field kicker for the Boston Tomcats. Single dad to Chloe, he has his focus on his daughter and the team. That is until Millie literally falls into his lap. Famous actress, she and Duke are quickly photographed and now the two make a decision to go with the fake relationship angle, at least for a while. No strings attached fun. But is it really? Kayley Loring and Connor Crais craft the most fun, hilarious story around these two, adding all the swoony feels and hysterical antics only these two can put together. I was laughing out loud, enjoying the banter, the social media bursts and craziness of teens. Its a book that is perfect anytime, anywhere and will definitely be putting that smile that everyone wants to know what you are listening to on your face. Grab this one, enjoy the gift of this book, the family feel the players and wags we know bring in and get best of all, laugh.

This had to be one of the best narration teams I have heard in a long time. Connor Crais and Desiree Ketchum our the leads, with duet narration and a fantastic feel for this couple. Crais brings in the grumpy, yet swoony Duke. I love the protective over his daughter voice! Ketchum easily falls into the British accent, bringing Millie alive. She gives her that maturity she has gained from her profession, yet gives her that vulnerable, easy to love feel. Add in Evan Parker and Mackenzie Cartwright, both sporting a variety of voices and accents and we have an amazing group of characters to love and enjoy! This is a book that needs to listened to!

This series has been so fun to listen to and this one tugged at the heartstrings and tickled the funny bones with the banter, silly situations, hilarious family members, and beautiful love story at the center. The narrators were perfect in their roles and really let this story shine.

Funny, swoony and all the best of Kayley and Connor in one book!

This audiobook was amazing. I LOVE duet/ full cast narration, and all of the narrators for this book were perfect. I’ve never heard Desiree’s narration before but she hit it out of the park! Connor was the perfect MMC as per usual. Voice as smooth as butter. & His “ Eddie (no the Irish one) Murphy” is so good. 😍

The story was my favorite out of the 3 Boston tomcat books. Their love story is so sweet and funny. I found myself chuckling and smiling quite a bit (which never happens for me with rom coms). Kabippi doing the mashed potato at the worst time killed me. 😂

Worth the credit? ABSOLUTELY. Please never stop the duet audios Kayley & Connor! I’m sure they’re more difficult to produce but it takes the book to a whole new level! ❤️

Tropes:
- grumpy/sunshine
- single dad
- fake dating
- sports romance (football)

SO good- best out of the series and AMAZING narration!! 😍 (NO spoilers but tropes listed & the end of my review)

OMG! Duke and Millie are my fav couple so far in the series! I love their grumpy/sunshine banter so much! Another one completely knocked out of the park by Connor, Desiree, Mackenzie, and Evan narrating too.

From the writing and story line to the narration, I enjoyed everything about this book. There’s just something so endearing about a single dad to a young girl that makes me melt. I would highly recommend this book (and the others in the series).

Beautifully executed!

Lighthearted, sweet story that once you start you don’t want to put it down. A famous American football player meets a Famous British actress where else but a Book Store while trying to hide from the paparazzi.

Funny & sweet great read

All the sweet feels! What stands out to me with this author duet is that they find a great balance, the dialogue is witty and real and believable. I am a huge real fan of the duet performance. Nothing worse than the guy attempting the lady’s part…..total record scratch. Love the additional characters for the ability to follow the conversation flow in group scenes:)

This was a great addition to the series and a story I have been looking forward to reading as I love single parent stories. From the first chapter I was hooked on single dad Callum (aka Duke) Duquette and British actress Millie Darden’s story.
Duke is a Placekicker for the Boston Tomcats and a former underwear model. As you would expect from a professional footballer he has a bit of an attitude and is cocky and a tad arrogant. However he is also a single dad and his relationship with his daughter Chloe made be swoon.
Kayley Loring and Connor Crais write well together, I have no idea where one author stops and the other takes over or who writes which characters. The characters were engaging, the story witty and it ticked all the boxes for me.
I really loved Millie, she is someone I could easily see as a friend and I loved how her happiness brought light into Duke’s life, or should I say the Duke of Grumpville which is what she calls him.
When they embark on a fake relationship neither realise how their lives are about to change, What happens when fake feelings suddenly become real?
The growth of both characters throughout this book was heart-warming to witness. There was a good balance between heat, romance and humour. iI couldn't wait to purchase this one in audio and I am so glad that I did. The narrators were phenomenal, each one brought multiple characters to life and their voices were varied. You could easily tell the individual characters and took my enjoyment of this wonderful story to another level.

Loved it - Great story and great narration

If you are a fan of sexy single dads, fake relationship tropes, grumpy/sunshine characters, and adorable tweens and their sass, then you absolutely don't want to miss this latest addition in the Boston Tomcats series by Kayley Loring and Connor Crais.

Callum Duquette, aka Duke, the place kicker for the Boston Tomcats NFL team and tattooed single dad of a precocious tween daughter, finds himself in a Notting Hill situation with beautiful British movie star Millie Darden. With both of them having social events to attend and needing a plus one, and after being caught in an accidental but seemingly romantic embrace, they both agree that the upside of not correcting the misunderstanding outweighs enduring a few awkward social outings to make this relationship work to their mutual benefit. Plenty of steam, not too much angst, and a perfectly satisfying HEA make this a perfect weekend listen.

Connor Crais returns as both the co-author and co-narrator in this return to the Boston Tomcats series pairing up with the sunny and sultry Desireé Ketchum, and with Makenzie Cartwright and Evan Parker rounding out this incredible cast. This is performed in duet narration, where each actor performs their character's lines regardless of the point of view in which it is written. This multicast format is a favorite and brings a continuity to the performance that is hard to match and oh so fun to listen to. Definitely worth a credit and a second listen!

Fun, flirty and fantastic!

What a fun ride the Boston Tomcats series has been! Duke: Faking the Play was a showcase of the powerhouse KL and CC are as a writing duo!

A fake dating romcom between Duke, a grumpy single dad who’s a place kicker for the Tommies, and Millie, an actress famous for her childhood films set in a magical world, “kicks off” big and was engaging from the start! I love the whimsy and hilarity in the last book in the series…especially the banter and inside jokes between Duke and Millie. Chloe, Duke’s 11-year-old daughter, is a joy, and I love how she contributes to the media commentary written into the story. Definitely a romcom that’s both sexy and sweet, Duke is low angst and lighthearted…even down to Duke and Millie’s ship names!

Narration was truly stellar! KL typically chooses the very best among narrators for her romcoms, and their performances in Duke truly made this audiobook a delight!

I highly recommend Duke: Faking the Play, and the entire Boston Tomcats series!
