Publisher's summary

An unexpected inheritance, a promise broken, and four lives changed forever: the newest pause-resister from USA Today best-selling author Jamie Brenner.

"Welcome to the gold standard of summertime escapism." (Elin Hilderbrand)

Summer has started in idyllic Sag Harbor, and for Emma Mapson that means greeting guests at the front desk of The American Hotel. But when one of the town's most famous residents, artist Henry Wyatt, dies suddenly, Emma learns he has mysteriously left his waterfront home - a self-designed masterpiece filled with his work - to her teenage daughter, Penny.

Back in Manhattan, legendary art patron Bea Winstead's grief at her lifelong friend and former business partner Henry's passing turns to outrage at the news of his shocking bequest. How did these unknown locals get their hands on the estate? Bea, with her devoted assistant Kyle in tow, descends on Sag Harbor determined to reclaim the house and preserve Henry's legacy.

While Emma fights to defend her daughter's inheritance, Bea discovers that Henry left a treasure trove of sketches scattered around town. With Penny's reluctant help, Bea pieces them together to find a story hidden in plain sight: an illustration of their shared history with an unexpected twist that will change all of their lives.

Drawn together in their battle for the house, Emma and Bea are forced to confront the past while facing a future that challenges everything they believe about love, fate, and family.

Critic reviews

"The pages practically turn themselves." (People)

"Readers hoping to make more fictional friends will find plenty of options in these pages. Complex characters and probable connections turn a pleasant story into something special." (Library Journal)

"Smart, full of curveballs, and perfect for the beach." (Kirkus)

Not for me

The reviews on this book were fairly good so I purchased the book, but I just couldn’t get into it and returned it (thanks Audible). The Bea character was just too obnoxious and not believable - I mean who goes and lives in a home that doesn’t belong to her. Perhaps the book comes together at some point, but between the sullen 14 year old, the obnoxious Bea and the wishwashy mom, I just didn’t care!

Development of a really good story takes time

The first 1/2 or more of this audiobook, “Drawing Home” was a bit slow for my usually impatient pace, but finishing the book was worth every detail that the author, Jamie Brenner put into the story. The book is a beautifully constructed masterpiece, and like art, you have to experience the finished work before you can experience the deeper understanding of the total picture. When complete, you’ll know you have witnessed something that has touched your very soul.

The Best!

One of the best books I’ve listened to in a long time. At one point the stress of the story almost made me put it down. But what a fabulous read!

Better then her first book

It’s the typical chick lit, to read on vacation. The characters were enjoyable, and narration as pleasant.

The slow pace is unbearable

I could not get through this book. I thought it would be a fun, light summer beach read but it was just boring. I was hoping i would like the main character Emma but i found her weak, whiny and annoying. The rest of the supporting characters were also unlikeable. Skip this book.

Good story, great narration!

Enjoyed the characters and the story. My least favorite characters were Bea and Marck, but I think at least SHE is coming around :) Narration was fabulous, thoroughly enjoyed!
