Autonomous Agency vs Psychological Determinism

These stories concretize the conflict between reason and freedom on the one hand, with unreason and subjugation on the other. The Warden doesn’t like reality, so he wants to remake it according his whim, consequences be damned. The Shield Knight and other heroes see further and more clearly than the myopic villains, illustrating the fact that evil is impotent and has nothing to offer the good. Romantic pulp fantasy at its finest.

another great sequel

advisory

as much as I love this series I would caution children listening to it due to multiple accounts of intercourse. that aside I am looking forward to the conclusion of this tale.

Amazing

I really like the dialogue between the characters. The writing is just amazing. I personally enjoy the biblical references. I honestly learn small gems of wisdom from listening to this series !

Misses its potential

I'm one of those folks who'll read something until the end just to see if the ending answers the questions or solves the problems. And I'll read a series, often longer than I should, for the same reasons.

This is one of those. I picked up the publisher's sets because I needed some long reads for a particular period, but it turns out they weren't a good match.

The stories have good potential, but I really wish the writer had a good editor for his process. Not *every* book needs to repeat a summary of *every* event that has happened to the party in the past. And that repetition is even more annoying when it happens multiple times in the same chapter. Roughly a third of the text falls in this category, or repetitions of previous thoughts by the same character, and dang it, while I want the story to have character depth, I also don't want to see the text spend unnecessary time sitting in the bathtub, so to speak. If previous history is important, add a prologue to explain it. Then focus on character depth and moving the story forward so that the text is *new*material rather than a grocery list of recaps of old events.

The problem is exacerbated by the choice of narrator for this series. There is no distinction in characters, and I'll admit that between the repetition in the text and the uniformity of the narration, I struggled to retain focus--and sometimes to know which of the characters was speaking.

Ah, well.

Two series with no ends!

loved it. I don't leave reviews often. Enjoy the story very much in the whole series, but this series and the frost born have no end on audio book. Listen to the books you will like them but have no clue if there will be endings coming out.

I love this book, but I can not abide Nile!

How do you know when a character is down right unbearable?

When you hope the villain kills him slowly, painfully and permanently…

When you skip EVERY chapter that mentions his name…

When you begin to hate one of your favorite characters because their story line is written together…

When you cringe at the mention of the character’s name…

When a book looses 2 stars because your favorite author created the stupidest character ever conceptualized and puts him in every book…

I simply HATE that idiot Nile!

This book is so good, but Nile. There is action and intrigue and . . . Nile.

Please kill him off in the next book! Please!
