Though Tal and Garin overcame one enemy, victory promises to be short-lived. Garin struggles with his inner demons. Tal is haunted by enemies and memories alike. And a long-kept secret has torn a rift between them.

But circumstances force them to continue their travels together. The roads from Avendor to Gladelyl, once the safest in the Westreach, are rife with danger. And Tal is bound to the commands of the Elf Queen whose intentions are unforeseeable. But reaching the elven realm is only the beginning of their troubles, for Gladelyl is in turmoil. The nobles grasp for power. The underclass and Eastern immigrants seek new rights. And an ancient enemy takes advantage of the chaos to turn them all against each other. Now Garin must come to terms with his demons.

Excellent tale - familiar, yet new & exciting.

This story began so similarly to a couple other fantasy stories I read years ago, that I almost put it down & left it. But as I read on, it became clear that this was - while familiar - very different and new. I'm so glad I kept reading and didn't miss out. Great characters, well developed, with real struggles and fears to deal with. The story is also quite good, yet, the writing (style) itself is even better.
Thus, it is a good, easy, enjoyable, all-'round listen. I found myself listening into the small hours, giving up sleep to keep listening; just didn't want to put it down. Going to begin Book Three as soon as I hit 'submit'!

Solid Story line

This book has a great fluid story and world building setting. Characters are developed and you have a good feel for their inner soul nicely done.

Epic!

These two stories wrapped up in one audio were epic and amazing. The world building and character flaws were perfect. I couldn’t stop listening. The actor’s performance was spot on with little changes for character voices be it man, woman, child or elf. Superb! I recommend this book series.

Great Series

This series is really good. Action and intrigue galore. The characters and world building are awesome. It is a really engaging story. At the end, it leaves you wanting more…

Must read

Had me on my seat the entire time, and hopefully more than three books for this series.

Great start to a fantasy series

I love these books because you get the rewards of a series like Wheel of Time, but don't have to read 1000 pages to get there. The first two books are an action packed coming of age story then a journey to the elven lands. There's plenty of magic and magical races, good characters, humor, everything I want in a very readable series.

Adding to that, the narrator is phenomenal. He really brings the books to life and creates a good listening experience. highly recommend this series

Loved it

I wasn’t so sure when I started the books but now after listening to the first two, I just have to know what happens. If that is not telling than I don’t know what is. I truly fell for the characters and need to know what comes next for them.
If you like Fantasy, this is a great series in my opinion. Creative, entertaining and enthralling.
Now to get the next book!!
