Publisher's summary

I am Levy Michaels. Once my kind were the hunters - now we are the hunted.

Supernaturals are out of the closet but I have to stay hidden because of the type of magic I possess. I’m a legacy. It sounds like the title should come with reverence, a trust fund, or at the very least a cool backstory - instead it comes with a death sentence.

I have to hide in plain sight and pretend to be just human. I’m pretty good at it. I live a simple and somewhat normal life, and I work in antique acquisitions. Everything’s going fine until a dangerous and enchanted dagger that was once in my possession is stolen. I didn’t think things could get any worse until I woke up next to a dead shifter, fae, and mage, without any memory of the past 24 hours.

Considered guilty of murder by most of the magical community and humans, I must work with Gareth, the sexy and dangerous leader of the Supernatural Guild. If he’s as good as rumored, it’s only a matter of time until he discovers the truth about me - then being found guilty of murder is the least of my worries.

She'll kick arse

Levy makes a fabulous lead character, she's strong, determined and not afraid to do what needs to be done, which is just as well because life has taken a turn for the bumpy! Surrounded by a great cast her adventures are intriguing and I did not want the book to end, I'll definitely be reading the next book.

Great world building, the fantasy element in this book is great, along with the 'standard' beings like vampires and shifters there's whole new types of magic users and everything is tailored to create a unique world.

The narration was spot on, the character voices are first class and the delivery made a great book even better.

I received a free copy of this book from the author and/or narrator and/or publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

Got better with time

As I started Double-sided Magic I felt it was crowded. The author immediately goes into background story mode. She attempts to explain too much in the beginning. I prefer when an author either adds a prelogue to cover that stuff or just lets the details flow naturally into the story.

After the first few chapters the story has a better flow. Our main character is accused of murder and for some dumb reason she constantly returns to the scenes of the crime. She isn't the sharpest tool in the shed but the author attempts to make her come across as brave. I don't know why brave is always paired with reckless.

I didn't get to the point where I absolutely loved these characters. The lead is a basic female herione. Nothing really stands our about her. She has an annoying bestfriend and a tough boss that's almost like a father figure.

During the course of the book the main character has to put her wits up against a shifter detective and the magic counsel.

She finds that her secret is harder to kept as evidence piles against her and she constantly has to use her secret powers as a Legacy.

The narrator is new for me. I can't remember any stand out moments but she also didn't stink. So I'd say she did her job :-)

For the next book, I hope the bulk of the book evolves around the magic counsel and Legacy secrets.

Awesome story & narrator

I’m new to audible books & my first experience was negative because the narrator was monotone, which ruined the story. I returned the book & looked for another paying attention to reviews regarding the narrator. This narrator received excellent reviews, & I completely agree!! The combination of a captivating story along with fantastic narration makes this book a total hit! Loved it!!

Beginning of something exciting!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

YES! Levy is an amazing female lead, she is so strong and independent and now she's learning that the world of secrets she's always lived in is going to have to change.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Levy for sure, she's so fierce and challenges the people around her and is always true to herself. She's a great character to carry this story and series.

Have you listened to any of Stacey Glemboski’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, I have not, but I really enjoyed her performance of this book and would listen to more books she has done.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, it definitely was intriguing and quickly grasped the listeners interest. Who is Levy? Why is she hiding? How long will this last? And so much more.

Any additional comments?

The characters in this book are all amazing, Gareth is a challenging alpha male character who questions Levy and sees through her lies, but he lets her think he knows less than he does because I think he realizes that the secrets she holds are keeping her safe. Her best friend Savannah is so loyal towards her and is a spitfire vamp lover. This was such a fun book and I can't wait to listen to the rest of the series.

Worth Sticking With

I found this book a little hard to get into iniatially. The main character to a little much to take. However, I'm glad I stuck with it. Overall, I love the storyline and while I wished some things had happened, I like the way the book ended. I look forward to reading the next book in series.

Nice start to a new series!

Double Sided Magic brings to life a situation in which none would hope to face; alone and hunted but not as a result of your actions. Magic and mayhem abound and threaten to cause catastrophic upheaval. The characters are likable and believable and the story contains just the right amount of sexual tension . The narrator did a nice job but a bit more tone inflections to fit the scene would have made the performance great!

Not advisable

I would highly recommend skipping this series. I've read many paranormal books and very rarely DNF, this was one. I read most of the series even starting book 4, waiting for it to improve but it never does, this is not well thought out and could be written in about 10 minutes. Here's my summary;

Heroine hides abilities.
Bad guy appears
Heroine defeats bad guy
bad guy escapes and comes back
heroine defeats all bad guys
bad guy escapes and comes back

Next Book

Heroine finds more problems
same bad guy appears
herione defeats bad guy
bad guy escapes and comes back
heroine locks up bad guy
bad guy escapes and comes back
Heroine defeats bad guy
bad guy comes back from dead

Rinse and repeat. this is the most repetitive aggravating book i have ever read. However that's just my opinion, they are short so it may not bother you as much. Enjoy

Honestly...boring

Wonderful ideas but no execution. No suspense or feeling. The world building was poor and when dangerous things happened to the main characters i couldn't feel any concern for them. Sad really, the ideas could have been so much better.

Way better than I expected!

I loved the suspense throughout and the interactions between the main characters. I usually don't like books written in first person, but really enjoyed this story and am looking forward to listening to more by the author!

Double-Sided Magic

It took a little but to get into but once the chemistry started and the story developed I became very absorbed in it. First time I've heard Stacey Glemboski narrate, she was a dream to listen to.
