Dorothy Hodgkin (1910-1994) was renowned for her medically important work on penicillin, vitamin B12 and insulin. Fully engaged with the political and social currents of her time, she participated in some of the greatest upheavals of the 20th century: women's education; the globalisation of science; the rise and fall of communism; and international peace movements. A wife, mother and grandmother, she cared deeply about the well-being of individuals in all cultures.

Outstanding

I was very hesitant to read this and now I could not be more happy that I did. Such an interesting, smart and charismatic person. I also really appreciate the author’s discussion of a comparison between her and Rosalind Franklin, which was done very respectfully to both parties. Narrator was also perfection.

Interesting look at the history of crystallography

My Grandmother was an x-ray tech in the early days of crystallography and I found it fascinating. She was a few years older than Dorothy, but I imagine she followed Dorothy and was familiar with her work. She was an amazing pioneers in the scientific landscape.
