Publisher's summary

Nilly is the new kid in school, but he doesn’t let that or his tiny size slow him down. After all, he has his smart mouth, quick wits, and fearless nature to see him through. Nilly quickly makes two special friends: Lisa, a girl whose own best friend has just moved, and Doctor Proctor, who has (1) a tragic past (including lost love and betrayal) and (2) a talent for inventing things like industrial strength fart powder. Before long the three friends are involved in a bizarre adventure that includes a huge anaconda, evil bullies, a treacherous theft, a trip through the sewers of Oslo, and some missing gunpowder.

This rollicking and highly explosive story – hilariously read by Audie Award-winning narrator William Dufris – is not for sensitive ears. For the rest of us, it’s more fun than a good game of Pull-My-Finger!

the kids like it

Any additional comments?

Well, my 6 year old and 4 year old really like it. I feel the plot is bizarre and rambling and hard to follow. On the plus side, the brief insights/references into life in Norway are fun, and it doesn't condescend to its audience. But overall I find it somewhat hard to get engaged in as an adult. But, I'm not the target audience so I probably should let my 6 year old weigh in- "it's awsome"!

Delightful

Would you listen to Doctor Proctor's Fart Powder again? Why?

I downloaded this story because I am huge a fan of Jo Nesbo's crime stories. I have read every Harry Hole novel I can find translated to English. But I have to say, it was totally unexpected and refreshing to find that such a masterful storyteller of the dark side of people also has within him this hilarious set of tales to tell. It's a great read for those days when life is getting you down. Some might call it a kid's book, and certainly children will find it entertaining. But it really appeals to the kid in all of us.

What did you like best about this story?

I laughed out loud.

What does William Dufris bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His vocal expressions of awe and wonder add a whole different dimension.

My kids loved it

My children loved this, but I found it just OK. As we listen in the car while travelling to school, I like to choose books which I can also enjoy.

Farts are funny

My four-year old boy absolutely loves this story. It's the only one out of dozens of audiobooks that he asks for anymore.

GREAT Listen: Especially first listen by child

What made the experience of listening to Doctor Proctor's Fart Powder the most enjoyable?

Don't be turned off by the potty-humor. This is a VERY good story for both adults and kids to listen to together. In someways, it's an amazing story about how kids and adults can share an amazing moment together. My son couldn't wait to listen to this! He would actually get up early before school and want to listen to it while eating breakfast (and he hates getting up early). Listen to this with your kid on a speaker and you will share a great story.

What did you like best about this story?

The narrator had an amazing ability to switch voices between characters. Dr. Procter had the most amazing "wobbly" voice that was pure fun to listen to.

What about William Dufris’s performance did you like?

GREAT voice! He made a good story GREAT!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It's about 4 hours. This is a bit much for a single sitting, but maybe in a long car trip. If not, don't despair and just find a couple of days in a row to listen to it.

GREAT story!

My son made my husband sit in a parking lot for almost an hour finishing the book. What a great read.

Good, light fun

This is great stuff for a long family trip in the car. It's a bit less intricately plotted than the How To Train a Dragon series. Drags on at a few spots, but funny for a wide range of ages.
