Publisher's summary

They call me the sugar whisperer.

Anything your tongue desires, I can bake it. Scones? Child's play. Cupcakes? I'll frost them so good you won't know what hit you. Donuts? Please!

You're talking to a master baker.

But there's one egg I've never been able to crack.

My best friend.

Correction: my former best friend.

She's the apple in my pie. The whip in my cream. The lemon in my meringue. The wish in my bone. She's the one who got away.

After ten years in the military, she's back. She's bruised and battered by life, but she's back. Except, she's not my second chance. She's gone to the dark side. Running a rival bakery in a town not big enough for two.

So, now I have to decide - which do I want more?

My bakery?

Or the woman I never should've let go in the first place?

Master Baker is a deliciously fun friends-to-enemies-to-lovers romantic comedy featuring a smooth-talking baker, the one who got away, and a goat with more matchmaking tendencies than a nosy old grandpa. It stands alone with no cheating or cliff-hangers.

Not my favorite

I have really enjoyed a lot of Pippa's books but this one was kind of disappointing. I felt like it was kind of whiny and some of the extra characters were really annoying. Listening to a whole book where everyone is repeatedly called a shithead or an asshole is not really my idea of fun. Usually I really am up for anything but I found myself just waiting for this book to be done.

You just gotta love this book!

As you have come to expect from a Pippa Grant book, this one will steal your heart. In this funny, romance you will find a potty mouthed parrot, a matchmaker goat, 2 towns full of pride and attitudes, 2 families full of love and support and 1 couple who just belong together. So buy your copy, sit back in a comfy chair and get ready for love, laughter and great freinds.

Disappointed

I normally love Pippa Grant books but I thought this one was boring and I had to force myself to finish it. The narrators did a good job but I thought the the rivalry between the two cities was carried too far and rather ridiculous. I highly recommend the author, just not this book.

second chances never tasted so good

Greeeeaaat choices in narrators! They did they characters justice. Who doesn't love a man that bakes and talks dirty to his creations? Who can't love a woman who is trying to making sure her mama's dreams come true even after a tragedy hits her? No one, that's who. Anika is strong willed, competitive, hard working and trying to hold on to the last piece of her sanity as she helps her mama and little sister open their bakery. Brady used to be her best friend, her chocolate chip cookie baker, her confidant until he asked her to give up her dreams for him without considering her needs and waiting until the last second to confess this to her. Both hurt, both missing a piece of their heart and both fighting to make their respected bakeries the best, battling each other for the title. Expected a lot of pent up chemistry waiting to boil over, kitchen mishaps, a goat matchmaker, and a lot of feeling as these two stubborn people battle each other, try to protect their hearts and survive a century or two years old town rivalries. l
Loved Anika and Grady's story and the narrators did a great job of these characters!

talk dirty to your batter

While this isn't my top favorite by Pippa Grant, I loved it none the less! loved the dirty talk....even if it was to the batter/cookie dough. Sue was awesome and I love the crazy animals/pets in her books. definitely recommend this book for an easy read.

Yummy

Feuding bakers, fantastic buns, blended together perfectly.

A few cameos from other characters from Pippa's books that we've come to love.

Another fantastic Pippa Grant book

I have totally been listening to all of these in the wrong order, but it doesn't matter, as they all also work just great as standalone books.
However, the main joy is how all of the characters from other books, and across different story threads, all make cameo appearances. It totally makes the whole fictional world so much more vivid and real.
I loved all of the new and recurring characters in this book, with a special mention to Sue, the matchmaking goat! 😂
Wonderful writing and excellent narration. Love both of these narrators so much.

Doughnut time!

Master Baker. What more can you want in a man? Someone who can make baked goods on demand! But that is not what this romantic comedy is about. Annika has come home to help her mother realize her dream. Just when she is about to open her bakery, she finds she is losing her sight and Annika will do anything to help her. The problem is, she can't bake! One town over, in Shipwreck lives her old best friend Grady. The one that wanted her to wait for him while he went to culinary school, and now owns his own bakery. And the rivalry begins. Pippa Grant had him with baking and a town called Sarcasm! But she molds a laugh out loud, second chance romance into this amazing story that held me captive for hours. Grady is amazing. Incredibly supportive, talks to his flour, knows what Annika needs and is very competitive! Annika is struggling, but I love that. It's nice to know she can be a soldier, but can't make brownies! Add in her little sister, Bailey who is a total hoot and the goat and you will be laughing while eating some fresh baked cookies! Grab this one if you want to have a fun, enjoyable listen!

Virginia Rose and Jason Clarke bring our all the stops for this romcom. Fantastic comedic timing and voices to match the characters perfectly, we enjoy their interpretation of the story. Even the goat has a voice! What a team! Sit back and listen to this one, you won't regret it!

My Thoughts on Master Baker

This was such a hilarious book. It was friends turned enemies but never really hated each other turned secret lovers. And their towns are rivals. But they're both so funny about it. It's like a hilarious Romeo and Juliet but with a goat who eats everything and a foul mouthed parrot and of course a happy ending.

Annika and Grady were best friends as kids but both went their separate ways after high school. Ten years later they meet again and so many laughs follow as their bakeries go to war. I loved the way Grady spoke to his dough. I loved how terrible Annika was with baking but how loyal she was to her mom and sister.

This was just a great story narrated by Jason Clarke's delicious voice on Grady's chapters and Virginia Rose giving the perfect tone for Annika's characters. She's definitely one I'd love to hear in more Rom-Com.

Lots of laughs and plenty of heart

I first read the ebook and I loved it. I loved the hilarious (and drool-worthy) descriptions of the baked goods. I loved that the baker and hero, Grady, talks lovingly to his food (something i'm apt to do because I love food). And I love the adorable animals that round out a fantastic cast. All those led to many laugh out loud moments.

But underlying all this humor is true emotion. Grady loved the heroine Annika. They were best friends in high school and he finally got the courage to tell her how he felt right before she went into the military. She still went because she didn’t want to be like her mother, who had her and her sister when she was young, without help from the father. Feelings of abandonment also ran deep with Annika. They lost contact, with both characters holding on to hurt about how things progressed.

Fast forward 10 years- Annika came back to take care of her mother, who just became blind. She wanted to follow through with her mom’s dream of a bakery but who owns the bakery in a competing town? Yep, Grady (there’s a lot of bad blood between Shipwreck (Grady’s town) and Sarcasm (Annika’s town)). Can they put aside the hurt and their town’s animosity to achieve their HEA? Read on to find out. Full of hijinks, humor and heart, it really makes me wish I lived in a small town where I could be friends with these people.

Now, I got to relive this awesome story via the audiobook. Both narrators, Virginia Rose and Jason Clarke, are fantastic. They play multiple characters (and there are a lot of them!) perfectly. I'm still impressed at how they can shift so easily between the many many characters. And can I just say, Jason Clarke with his gruff voice? Sigh. I could listen to this book again and again! And since I own it, I plan to!

Okay

This is one of those audiobooks where the narrators are better than the story! Sweet story but quite frankly boring, absolutely no plot and to be honest it just went on and on and on. Sweet but I could’ve done without it.

Amazing read!!

I absolutely loved the shit out of this book!! It was the cheesiest, most adorable book ever! This storyline is about two best friends that never got the guts to say they loved each other until one was on their way out of town. When she came back it was on rocky ground and for different reasons than love. This book has also gotten me into some more books by Pippa Grant that I will be reading. I would definitely recommend this book, it is one that will not be regretted. I loved this book!!

3 1/2 - 4 stars for the story

Master Baker is a light-hearted, second chance romance with a large dose of small town rivalry added to the mix for some extra fun. The small town rivalry between Sarcasm and Shipwreck is absolutely OTT, verging on a little ridiculous at times, but at all times it makes for fun listening.

I prefer to listen to this authors books, I've read a couple and I find the humour just works so much better when I'm listening to the stories (for me the humour falls flat in ebook format)......bonus - she has some of my favourite narrators performing her works which is also a big plus.
