Publisher's summary

Manage your anger and have a happier, more peaceful relationship with your kids and others.

Even if you’re usually even-tempered, there are times when your kids know exactly how to push your buttons. You lose your temper, yell at them, and then feel guilty because they’re just kids.

Or even worse, you fly into an uncontrollable rage and go from zero to 1000 degrees Fahrenheit in a nanosecond, then feel embarrassed because you know you completely overreacted.

So do you want to know how to:

  • Stop lashing out at your kids without warning and get your kids to listen without having to yell?
  • Break vicious cycles of anger built up over generations and avoid raising kids with the same anger issues as you?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, you’re not alone.

The trick is to understand where your anger comes from so that you can control it before it controls you.

In this guide, here is just a fraction of what you will discover:

  • Why do you often explode so quickly or snap over something trivial for no reason?
  • The three-step quick-release action that Taoists have used for 2000 years to get you past explosive anger when the blood rushes to your head.
  • How you can stop being a hurricane mom so that you don’t cause long-term psychological damage to your kids and affect their personalities.
  • How to encourage your kids to own their feelings and not suppress their emotions, and teach them self-regulation over “tantrum storms”.

And more!

Whether your anger is sparked by your childhood trauma or your kids not listening to you, you can overcome it by changing how you think and reacting to triggers.

If you want to stop flying into a rage and get on a healthy relationship footing with your kids, then you should listen to this audiobook!

Not just for parents! for everyone!

While I am a dad to a 1 and 3 year old, this book can definitely help non-parents as well. For me, my triggers were described dead on, and the strategies to help mitigate my boiling anger were clear, practical, and achievable. One of the most helpful observations was about how most of my anger comes from fear, and I’m very appreciative for all the info presented in this audio book.

Learn to raise happy, confident kids!

"Diffusing Anger" is a great listen that gives practical strategies for parents to help manage tantrums and anger with their children. Definitely a great resource for any parent looking to diversify their techniques for handling upset children. The 3-step quick release action is a new concept to me, but seems like a powerful way to handle explosive reactions from children.

This book is highly recommended to any parent looking to either disrupt or completely break destructive anger cycles with their children, and should absolutely contribute to a more positive, healthier relationship between parents and children!

Good book, gives a lot of ideas on how to address anger

I liked that it explored a lot of the sides of anger. It gives many useful ideas, including how we need to find the root cause of anger, not just manage it. It gives some good insights on dealing with and managing anger while parenting, and it gives some information about supplements, etc.

Constructive Strategies to Teach Your Child

Woodley presents thoughtful and very educational strategies to help you and your child constructively manage anger issues. The book begins by explaining the What, Where, When and Why of anger. She goes into detail about the many triggers that can cause undesired responses in or outside the home. Many parents chose to ignore their child’s angry outbursts and displays of disrespect. Woodley explains how this approach is very detrimental and does nothing to stop the behavior.

The triggers for the unwanted behavior can be a number of things ranging from a child not getting what they want, not getting enough physical exercise, to being hungry and many more causes. She also suggests self reflection on the parents part to understand how their behavior and communication might be contributing to the problem.

The book presents numerous techniques to diffuse anger and recommends trying them to see which ones work best for your particular situation. She emphasizes that this is not a one size fits all approach. I appreciated the real life anecdotes and case studies that are shared in the book. The narrator tells the stories in a very compassionate way. I highly recommend this audiobook to all parents, not just with immediate needs. The tools presented should be in all parents tool box!

Impressive Guide

The book "Diffusing Anger" is an enlightening and life-changing guide for parents who wish to understand the basis of anger and learn how to manage their own personal difficulties and frustrations. The book is written specifically for parents. The book serves as a reminder to us that the anger displayed by parents is frequently the consequence of unseen triggers and reflects who you indeed are. This book gets to the bottom of anger and includes many valuable ideas and tools that parents can use to help their children cope with their intense feelings and strengthen their relationships with their children. Because the audiobook's narrator has such a pleasant tone, I find that I can't stop listening to it. I strongly recommend that first-time parents read this book to be better prepared to handle the challenges and difficulties of raising teens. The book is an undiscovered treasure in anger management, and I believe it ought to be required reading for all parents.

Great tool for parents or any adult

This book is about a topic that all people can learn from, not only parents. Practical exercises are readily available in the book and will definitely assist in applying and cementing the management of anger. As a retired teacher, these tools would come in handy in the classroom also, modified, of course, to fit the needs of your students. We all have triggers, and in life, it is important to re-evaluate ourselves and how we handle our own stresses. This is a well-organized and written book to help each of us do this, especially with our young ones!

Spot on! Hit the nail on the head!

This audiobook perfectly describes the reasoning behind our anger as parents and children. The author brilliantly tackled the challenges we all face in controlling our anger as parents and as kids and strategically provided examples to help us overcome those challenges to have a more connected and harmonious family.

In the beginning, the author perfectly describes our anger and how those around us perceive it. No one wants to be around angry people; hence everyone tends to avoid those who are angry. I love how they explained the why and how of anger and how that can affect our children. I also loved the description given regarding how "fury is a defense mechanism against low self-esteem." We tend to hide behind our anger due to fear, stress, unhappiness, inadequacy, and other feelings instead of taking time to cool down and discuss our emotions in a more controlled and rational state. When we are angry, we are negatively affecting and influencing our children. This is a perfect book to help us gain perspective into our attitude and how we can change those negative anger tendencies into better, healthier ones to help our children and teach them these skills to overcome their anger.

The narration was done very well, and there were very brief pauses between chapters and sections, which was fabulous for me. I highly recommend this book to everyone struggling with anger in themselves or a loved one: fantastic insights and helpful techniques to learn and apply. :)
