Slow Start - Powerful book

I only listened to the first 20 minutes of this because I didn't have anything else in the car.

BOY, AM I GLAD I DID!

The authors read this, and at first they seem dry and without energy. But their content lured me in. I've learned more in four hours of listening that I have in 20 years of self-help books on active listening and communicating with people.

If you have ever struggled to have a good conversation with a spouse, child, co-worker, or boss, this is worth listening to. I am getting ready to start my second time through.

Worth the listen

If you’re wanting to learn more about how to handle and navigate hard conversations this book will help. You must pay close attention, rewind when needed, and take notes. But if you genuinely care and listen with attention you will Learn a great amount.

Should Be Required Reading (listening) For .......

Anyone who (honestly and sincerely) listens to this audiobook cannot help but benefit from it. Conversely anyone who says to themselves, "I don't need to hear or to learn about all this emotion nonsense, " is only fooling themselves and destined to a deep inability to reach their own full potential as a social human being. Be courageous enough to listen, look at yourself and others and then make changes. But be forewarned, it takes a healthy dose of bravery to do so!!

Certainly and nice read, and will likely read it again soon, very useful in so many ways and the most important thing is work

I learned a great deal with the book!

The cases they presented are really helpful. One can relate to the people involved and visualize dynamics that take place in real life. I loved it.

TERRIBLE NARRATION!!!!!

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Decent content, yet though a little corny at times.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

One of the male voices was so monotone and boring it was painful. The conversation skits were as if they were purposefully trying to read slow and clumsy.

Where does Difficult Conversations rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is far and away the best, most complete book on how to approach and manage conflict and discussions most of us would rather avoid. It confronts all aspects of "difficult conversations" and gives valuable tips and tools for getting through them better. I come back to this book all the time. I can't live without it.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Difficult Conversations?

Douglas Stone has the gentlest voice and is perfect for the Emotions section. The dramatized conversation at the end is fantastic.

Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No. This was a first, I was skeptical. I usually prefer one voice in a book, but this was very well done.

What insight do you think you’ll apply from Difficult Conversations?

I think the best advice is to "turn UP the volume" on your feelings. Listening to your feelings and having a conversation with yourself before engaging in a tough talk is great advice.

Any additional comments?

These people are the best. The Harvard Negotiation Project has done a great service in writing these books. This is profound work and a pretty great audiobook, too.

Better narrator

With a professional good narrator the book will be perfect. The content of the book is great.

Yes, I would because even though it shows the examples on a very simple way, sometimes maybe too simple, it reminds us of some basic principals that make the difference.
