A Futuristic Police Procedural.
Dhata Mays is a Tampa Florida, police detective. The story is set in the future, but not a future that is so far away that things from our present are unrecognizable. There is a murder mystery involving synthetic human beings. The synthetic humans or synths, are a whole subculture of society and they suffer bigotry by regular, organic human beings. The story was on the average side, but it was unexpectedly engaging if that makes any sense. I found the Dhata Mays character interesting and the narration by Tucker McDougall was very well done. The story was a little too short for my taste, but over all, I enjoyed the book. Enough so that I will definitely check out another book in the series. Finally, this free, review copy audiobook was given to me at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

Greg Dragon got a nice writing style, his books are easy to understand and have enough twists to make all his stories interesting and enjoying. A great new sci fi series
I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This was a great story along the lines of Blade Runner and Altered Carbon with synthetic people living among humanity. The main character, Dhata Mays, is an interesting character and I found him very engaging. This was a great introduction to the series.

nice hard boiled detective
I quite enjoyed this. It was a little bit futuristic noir, a little bit Maze Runner. Hell, there might even have been a little Elijah Baley in Dhata. It was a good mix. Yes, Dhata was just a little too perfect—a little too tough, with too many connections in all the wrong places to somehow be one of the few clean cops left around. But I liked him and the book all the same. The writing was sharp (though occasionally oddly formal), the mystery progressed at a nice pace, and the persecution of Synths could easily be read as an allegory. I look forward to reading more about him. And Tucker McDougall did a marvelous job with the narration. On a side note, it's worth knowing that there is a glossary at the end of the Kindle edition that I think may be missing in the Audible version, which is a shame. I needed it for some of the slang. Note: I received an audible credit for this book from the author. However, I chose to listen and review it.

Loved it!
This is my first Greg Dragon book but it will most definitely not be my last. I loved this book so much!! First off, I loved that the world Dragon created used elements of other sci-fi, post-apocalyptic books like med pods, a drug called Stem, and zephyrs. Into this world, he added Androids that were synthetic humans and thus were called Synths. The Synths were low man out so there wasn't much sympathy, or justice, when bad things happened to them. Enter the incorruptible, sensitive cop named Dhata (HOW GREAT IS THAT NAME!) and the fun begins. The narrator was insanely good. The story was well-written and the narrator just made everything special about it even more so. This is Book O and I'm now off to the next book in the series.

Riveting!
This story was riveting. Once it got started there was no pausing for me. The author did an awesome job of linking plots and characters so cleanly, I felt like I was living in the moment. Excellent genre visualizing a synthetic world in a familiar city.

Great intro to a near-future dystopia
I had started with books 1 and 2 of the synth crisis and loved them. I saw there was a book 0 and hoped it would give more of a back story on the main character, Dhata Mays. I did not get quite what I was expecting, but did get an action packed introduction to the series, and a few hints into what drives the Dhata. This book was quite a bit shorter, a little more than half the length of the others, and it was packed from beginning to end with action. Overall a very enjoyable story. The narration was rock solid, once again, and seemed to fit the story. I received this book at my request in exchange for a fair and unbiased review, and I have voluntarily left this review.

Nobody threatens me and mine.
Set in the twenty second century after war has devastated vast tracts of the U.S., humans and synthetics uneasily co-exist, the latter being almost impossible to determine from their human counterparts. But someone is targeting the synths,, ruthlessly hacking individuals to death. And the police don't really seem interested. But one officer, Dhata Mays, and his partner, Jason, are horrified by the brutally and the uncaring attitude of their fellow officers and intend to put an end to it, single handed, if necessary. Interesting characters set in a bleak landscape, this is a detective story without much futuristic S.F. This is a shortish novella, obviously intended to introduce the lead protagonist to readers in advance of a series. As such, concentration is more on the nature of the man himself and the unstable, corrupt society around him but the story is still acceptable, if rather frenetic. Narrator Tucker McDougall gives a good performance, with individually distinct character voicings and a pleasantly intoned, well paced reading of the text, a slightly lagubrious tone capturing the attitude of the main protagonist. My thanks to the rights holder of Dhata Mays who, at my request, freely gifted me a complimentary copy of the book via Audiobook Boom. I look forward to further books in the series.

A truly great series
This book was provided free of charge with the expectation of an honest review. This book was surprisingly good. It was about a police team in Tampa FL in the future who investigate a string of murders. The city is divided between humans and synths. The androids are treated as second class beings and Dhata and his partner face an uphill battle in there search for the guilty and their desire to see justice served. The narration was outstanding and did a fantastic job with multiple characters and sexes. This truly was a fantastic book and I look forward to the entire series.
