Publisher's summary

Gregg Kaplan is hired by a private investigator to track down a missing man whose last known location was France.

He enlists Pete Moss, a retired Witness Security deputy US marshal, to help him locate the man. What Kaplan doesn't know is that the man he's supposed to find is not who he was led to believe.

As Kaplan is drawn deeper into the dangerous mission, he quickly uncovers the hidden agenda for the reason he was hired - the man is an exiled traitor wanted by the United States government. Kaplan's real mission: recover the information the traitor stole.

As the body count rises and the pieces fall in place, Kaplan discovers he has been betrayed. A sin he won't forgive.

Chuck Barrett deserves so much more attention...

... then he receives.
This book kept me on the edge of my seat. It is a taught, action packed, globe trotting espionage thriller. This is the third book in the Gregg Kaplan series. Each one seems to get better and better.
In this book Kaplan is working freelance and believes he’s left the CIA behind. He reluctantly accepts a job from a private investigator to locate a man in France. Once there he learns that the job was not as represented and he’s working for the CIA. The person he’s looking for is not an heir but a traitor and he’s not the only one after him. What follows is a wild ride.
Marc Vietpr does an awesome job narrating.
This book has my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.
If you haven’t listened to the Jake Pendleton series also by Chuck Barrett I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that four book series as well.

Great 3rd book..

Another good read about Gregg Kaplan and his friend and partner Pete Moss. This was about a traitor of the United States that the CIA, the Russians, the Iranians, and an assassin were all after the traitor, and it was up to Kaplan and Moss to stop them all and keep the traitor safe until they retrieved the information he had stolen from the US.

There was no romance and the F-bomb was used 8 times.

As for the narration: Marc Vietor did a great job on the narration.

A very entertaining story

A great installment in the Greg Kaplan series, good story lines that move along with just enough detail to keep it interesting. I have enjoyed Mr. Barrett’s books enough to listen to them all at least a couple times each.

Enjoyed it very much

Look forward to the next adventure with Gregg and Moss in France. Or wherever life takes them.

Terrific thriller!

I listened to DEVIL IN THE WIND on May 26 and loved it but did not review it because Audible had apparently decided to delay posting my reviews of fiction but not non-fiction. The one to two week delay in posting with no logic or reason without asking for modifications seemed to be automatic so I quit reviewing novels. We'll see if this on makes it through in less than seven days. Meanwhile I noticed that Audible Listener Shelley who is by far the best reviewer of novels of the mystery/thriller genre has posted her 1,000th review here at Audible. I congratulate her on this milestone and thank her for pointing me toward many wonderful novels with her reviews. I also appreciate her idea of the placeholder review of Beneath Devil's Bridge. 6/7/2021

A bit annoying

Fair story line but distracting narration. Long loud breathing between sentences. Possibly better editing is needed.
