Publisher's summary

He never expected to fall for his best friend's sister, but now that he has...he'll do whatever it takes to keep her safe.

Having a crush on one of your brother’s friends is so cliché. But Reese Woodall isn’t too worried...it’s not as if she’d ever have a chance with the former Delta Force operative. For one thing, he lives in New Mexico, and she’s in Missouri. For another, since Woody and his team chaptered out of the Army several years ago, she hasn’t seen Gus even once. She’s free to lust after him from afar...but with her brother currently missing, Reese has far more important things to worry about.

Gus “Spike” Fowler doesn’t think twice before heading to South America when he learns his old Army buddy has disappeared—and his younger sister has gone to Colombia to find him. Though he hasn’t thought much about Reese in the last five years, he certainly remembers her. The curvy, sexy, stubborn engineer is hard to forget. He liked what he saw years ago. And now? After she surprises him in the best way during a high-stakes bid to rescue Woody from a drug cartel? He likes her even more.

Safely back at the Refuge, the sparks Reese and Spike experienced in Colombia quickly ignite, and they both find everything they’ve ever wanted in a partner. But they might lose it just as quickly...when the trouble they escaped in South America crosses the border.

Deserving Reese is the third book in the Refuge series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliff-hanger endings.

Wow! What I have learned about men and women. Such deep love, understanding and a view for the future.

I really appreciated how not only did the couple meld together, but every thing was able to keep me on my toes.

Fantastic!!!

Susan Stoker never fails to disappoint with her novels and Deserving Reese is no different. Deserving Reese is the 3rd book in the Refuge series and is a brother's best friend with a twist. Although Reese Woodall has had a crush on Spike for years, she doesn't turn to him when she has a problem. Gus (Spike) Fowler is a founding member of the Refuge in New Mexico and heads to Columbia when Woody goes missing and Reese decides to go looking for him on her own. Now everyone is back at the Refuge hiding out from a drug cartel and Reese and Spike's feelings get a major jumpstart and go full speed ahead. But is she willing to relocate her life and when danger comes knocking will they be able to survive it? Deserving Reese is a military romantic suspense that will keep readers on their seats from start to finish. I also love the camaraderie between the men and women of the Refuge and how they see each other has family. I can't for the release of Deserving Cora and Deserving Lara. I love Maxine Mitchell and Teddy Hamilton they both really did these characters justice with their narrations.

Different story of different types of heroes

I loved it because it showed how many different people can be heroes in their own way. There is mention of other characters from other books. There is also the mystery that we still don't know who someone is and I can't wait to keep reading more books to find out.

And the hacker/texter mystery continues…

Reese and Gus were perfect for each other. Reese is a dang good sister with maybe some impulse issues. When her brother goes MIA, she decides to go find him herself, in Columbia! Once Gus finds out he sets out to Columbia to go get her and hopefully her brother back in one piece. What seems like a suspiciously easy task, quickly becomes complicated. That doesn’t stop their love from blooming. Gus is amazing, the way he worships Reese and all the sweet things he does. And Reese is my idol, body positive, smart, and a little nerdy! Maxine Mitchell and Teddy Hamilton really brought these characters to life in my head and I thank them for it.

We got Tex cameos and mentions of Baker! I can’t believe even Tex doesn’t know who are mystery hacker/texter is! But I can’t wait for that reveal, I have a feeling it’ll be a good one.

I loved the ending and the mystery it’s created for the next book!

Wonderful third installment!

A great third installment! Reese is a woman a lot of people can identify with. She has strong family ties, body issues and a “can do” attitude. Gus was a surprise to me. He is a loner and likes it that way. But yet he runs off after Reese and Woody to a foreign country with his buddy to rescue them. Everyone wants a friend like that! I enjoyed their budding relationship.

The audio is well done! Maxine Mitchell and Teddy Hamilton are a joy to listen to. The one has a special guest of Gregory Salinas and he rounds things out nicely.
