De.lu.sion.al is the story of Sara Jane Sullivan, an attractive woman in her late 20s with a lifelong history of mental illness. Diagnosed as delusional, Sara's story is compelling as she survives incarcerations in mental institutions and prison for stalking a very powerful political talk show host, Larry Mitchell. Larry is known in the business for sexual preying on young interns and the disenfranchised. After meeting Larry at a park in Connecticut, and a brief affair, Sara's life begins its out of control spiraling as she is thrown into the world of the evils of celebrity, one in which she becomes the victim of an evil and ruthless man who will stop at nothing to stay in power as America's reigning king of political talk shows.

Decent psychological thriller. Overall mostly well written and narrated. Did jump around a bit but that was alright in telling the story. Felt like a Lifetime movie which I don't usually do unless it's a good mystery or psychological thiller. So this was different than what I expected from the cover and title. The female main character is diagnosed a delusional schizophrenic. But the villain character, a wealthy well connected conservative politician talk show host, is the one that's really sick in the head. Listening through to the end, was hoping Sara would somehow get revenge against Larry who used and abused her. But justice is eventually served thanks to a reporter. A tragic dramatic story. Worth the listen.

The author creates a tale of rape and mental illness and how powers that be use the second to control their victims.
This book speaks volumes in regards to how women and especially those who are victims of sexual assault are treated. Add in issues with mental illness and the author created a spiderweb of intrigue, sadness, and strength.
I flew through this book only putting it down when I had to. Sarah's story is heartbreaking and I felt sorry for her. When her character runs to Alabama, the author and narrator do a better job at capturing our culture and accents than many others who have attempted to be for. Imagining her here, in my own stomping grounds, added a layer that made me want to reach out and grab her and help her.
Even if you aren't from Alabama, anyone interested in mental health, the abuse of power and women's issues and like a good thriller who enjoy this book.

This story is descent, but I had a hard time following it the way it was written. All through the book it jumps around, and I found myself having to rewind and listen again to figure out what was going on in many parts. I think this book would be easier to follow in print, rather than trying to listen to it. The narration is pretty good, but kind of slow. Overall this book was a little frustrating to listen to, but had a good story line so I have mixed feelings.
