Publisher's Summary

A Wall Street Journal bestseller.

Love is the best defense in New York Times bestselling author Susan Stoker’s explosive Mountain Mercenaries novel.

Gorgeous women don’t just stumble onto Ronan Cross’s remote property. But this one - vulnerable, victimized, and needing the kind of help only Ronan can offer - tells a story that makes his blood boil almost as hot as his need to protect her.

Since her father’s death, Chloe Harris has become a prisoner. Her own brother, a flesh peddler and low-level player in the Denver Mafia, is forcing her to sell her body for an endgame Chloe never saw coming: control over a vast fortune. Her only way out is to run - straight into the arms of the one hard-bodied man she can trust.

Defending Chloe could rain punishment down on the Mountain Mercenaries. Her brother has Mob connections and the local police in his pocket. But Ronan still has an edge - the unshakable loyalty of his deadly teammates. As well as an unquenchable thirst for retribution...and Chloe.

Stoker is good for a light read.

I enjoyed this story, much more because of the narrator who maintained if not completely accurate accents, at least consistent. Good inflections.

As for the author, I always have a bit of a hard time recommending Stoker's books because--as much as I enjoy them for snack-type books--they are hard to totally relax with since she has holes. She repeats things in the same book many times, and then says things from a previous book but incorrectly so you're all "NO! You said ____ not ___ and how you've retold it in this book changes the entire last book. ARG".

I think she just needs a good editor. For ALL of her stories.

That said, I really like the stories. I just have to remind myself to take them as good drama, good ideas, not the greatest execution, and when writing problems occur I simply pretend it didn't' happen--like one does for a bad episode of a favourite show. lol

I liked the story

Chloe has been under her brothers thumb for years. He’s been increasingly cruel and she’s finally ready to make her move to escape. When she stumbles across Ro, she has no idea that he will do anything to ensure that she’s safe. Even if fall8ng for her wasn’t his plan.

I’m loving the series so far, but sometimes I can’t believe the decisions these mercenaries make. For them to be such badasses, they find themselves some interesting binds. Also, while Chloe has been through hell and we know it, she was a pain at times and extremely naive during the story, but it was understandable. I was surprised how anticlimactic the ending was though.

Ro and Chloe had great chemistry and the major it of the story revolves around their time together, similar to Gray and Alley’s story. Again, loved the story and ready to check out the next in the series.

Great romance!

Another exciting story by Susan Stoker! The heroine in this story is Chloe, who is the daughter of a wealthy man. When her father is murdered, she loses her job and winds up living back at home with her brother who has taken over the family business. After things begin deteriorating when she doesn’t marry any of her brothers friends, he starts forcing her to work in his strip club. The hero meets her when she stumbles to his home one night and asks for the phone to call a ride. He just can’t stop thinking about her and the big bruise she had on her back. When he decides to try to make sure she’s ok, he finds her at the club and finds out she’s being forced to work there against her will. The men of the Mountain Mercenaries go to rescue her. Add in the mafia, her greedy brother and an unknown inheritance and it makes for a lively story. Narration was well done.

Men You Can Trust!

Susan Stoker continues the Mountain
Mercenary series with Chloe & Ronan's
story. This is a light enjoyable read with
plenty of suspense & sexual heat to keep
the action moving. The narrator does a
good job of delineating the various characters.

More Mountain Mercenaries ❤️‍🔥🔥❤️‍🔥

Honorable men falling for strong women is what this series is about.. the continuing theme of militant like group whose focus is saving women and children from abuse is oh so admirable and swoon worthy.
Ro can’t get the woman who wandered to his driveway off of his mind, Chloe had it all, and lost everything to her brother’s control.
Ro wants to save her, but Chloe can’t trust anyone. This is journey of patience, understanding, fear, and greed. And HEA..

Twists & turns abound

I have listened to the Delta Force series and loved it. This one is even better as it kept me on my toes with all the twists and turns! I also love how one book leads into the next in a way that makes me impatient to get to the next book in the series.

🎧 Ro (Ronan) and Chloe 🎧

This, book 2 of the Mountain Mercenaries series featuring an English hero, is another exercise in illustrating how evil humans can be, while also delivering a sweet and steamy romance.
Stella Bloom is ok, but not great at the English accent.

Defending

I enjoyed listening to Stella Bloom, she does a good male British accent.

This is Ronan's and Chloe's story, and from the first meeting you know the two of them are meant to be.

Chloe's brother , is a family member you do not want. With Ronan and the other Mountain Mercenaries on her side Chloe can and does fight back.

Fun and action

another gooden

Susan has written better than this one but its still a good story. I prefer the mission ops plots more so than these type of stories but it's great to hear about the boys again. Stella does well for a single narrator.

Terrible narrator. Great story.

I would like to give this story 5 stars. The storyline was great and that is the only reason I forced myself to listen to it. Why write great books then use bad narrators.
