Publisher's summary
After barely escaping the perilous expedition to the Antarctic to locate a WW2 Nazi Ice Station Dave Purdue once more elicits the help of historian Dr. Nina Gould and award winning investigative journalist Sam Cleave. When the maintenance submersible from Purdue’s oil drill, Deep Sea One, goes missing off the coast of Scotland in the North Sea, he discovers the wreck of a sunken WWII German submarine beneath.
Inside, Purdue, Sam and Nina find an ancient book containing various ciphers and clues implicating the location of one of Hitler’s most sought after relics, the legendary Spear of Destiny. With Purdue’s new and mysterious bodyguard, Calisto, they hire a guide and set out to the breath taking beauty and danger of the mighty Tibetan Himalayas to seek out a shrine mentioned in the antique book. They manage to obtain an important clue before having to escape the wrath of the mountain shrine’s guardians.
When unexplained freak storms start to plague the offshore oil platform, some of the crew fear that something ancient and powerful is at work. The discovery of an antique Roman chest reveals what Nina, Sam and Purdue may have been looking for, but is it the real thing or is it a decoy? While examining the artifact, Nina realizes that there is much more to the legendary sovereignty of the Spear and the real reasons why Hitler coveted it.
But with the British Secret Service infiltrating Purdue’s consorts and the notorious Order of the Black Sun making their appearance, there is another kind of storm brewing on the horizon. A menacing and primordial tempest from obscurity is creeping over the North Sea to engulf Deep Sea One.
Deep Sea One leads the listener on a roller-coaster ride in search of a legend. Packed with breathtaking suspense and nerve-shredding action, Deep Sea One is a thrilling listen for all fans of action, suspense, and intrigue.

Theft of name!!
Not a good book and I seriously dislike the fact that the author uses the news "Preston" and "Child". Isn't that a form of plagiarism? Wonder if the real Preston and Child have seen this. Use your own name and quite riding their short tails for your advancement. Wish I could get my money back.

Awful narration. Accents that are half baked and vary mid sentence, mispronounced words, and the continuous use of a long “a” when reading make it nearly unlistenable.

Narrator is a moron
Story is good but the narrator is an idiot. Along with mispronunciations of any work of more than 3 syllables he refers to MI 6 as M SIXTEEN!
However it’s better that the narrator for the rest of the series.

This drags a bit. The narrator is awful. He should spend less time trying to speak with accents and learn basic English pronunciation! Every time he mispronounces a word it detracts from the story.

Bit of a fantastical story
The narrator does a good job with Russian German and Scottish accents. Unfortunately, he makes the women and the billionaire sound as if they are snakes or some other kind of reptilian trying to speak English. It was really quite annoying and hard to get past. I did finish listening to the book and did not think it was at the same level of quality as the first book.

A Fun Ride
A storyline that keeps the listener entertained, with no long drawn out insignificant filler. There are a few good twists and turns, enough to keep me going to the end without asking for a refund. The voice actor slipped a few times crossing characters accents, but overall good.

I normally like Preston/ Child ..
...but this was unlistenable. I struggled to get past the first chapters, even after starting over. The story is boring. I am leaving it unread.
The performance is unforgivable. the voice characterizations are hammy and inconsistent. One accent meandered between the intended Scots brogue and something like Boris Badanov.
This was my second Audible title and it disappointed me thoroughly. Don't think I'll renew.

Story ok, narrator sucks
Not a bad story. Just the kind I like, similar to Sigma force novels, although it lacks some more explanation. A little confusing at the end, also rushed. Had to go back a few times to understand and connect the dots. As for the narrator: just terrible! Starting with MI16, and the horrible interpretation of Purdue! And we shall not forget the loud narration, after this saying "she whispered", or high narration followed by "she said in a low deep tone". Was just awfull!

Good story spoiled.
A very entertaining story. Pure fantasy but showing great imagination. The overall effect is spoiled by the poor narration. I was completely immersed in the story, then the narrator referred to M sixteen and I came out of my reverie to shout MI (as in eye) 6 at my iPhone! Spoiled the ambience completely. There were several other mispronunciation

Poor
This sequel makes the first book look like a classic, the story is forced, rattling along with too much haste and way too little depth.
The author is probably a 12 year old who has just discovered the wonders of a thesaurus without understanding the language.
The narrator has sank to new depths as he struggles to mispronounce as many words as possible.
Strangely I has worked through the book, probably in a desire to see how low the pair can actually sink.
The editor and proof reader should be sacked.

Story
Evil is most assuredly afoot - and Britain’s fate rests in the hands of an alluring renegade... and a librarian. These are dark days indeed in Victoria’s England. Londoners are vanishing, then reappearing, washing up as corpses on the banks of the Thames, drained of blood and bone. Yet the Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences - the Crown’s clandestine organization whose bailiwick is the strange and unsettling - will not allow its agents to investigate. Fearless and exceedingly lovely Eliza D. Braun, however, with her disturbing fondness for dynamite, refuses to let the matter rest...
