Publisher's summary

Sergeant Hamish Macbeth Scotland's most quick-witted but unambitious policeman is back and may have finally met the woman of his dreams in this new mystery in M.C. Beaton's beloved, New York Times best-selling series.

Hamish's new constable, Dorothy McIver, may be the most beautiful woman he's ever seen. Completely bewitched by her sparkling blue eyes, Hamish spends the summer traveling with her up and down Sutherland until finally, he can take it no longer. He gets down on one knee beside the Land Rover and begs her to marry him — and to his amazement and delight, she says yes.

But just as the town of Lochdubh gets ready to celebrate, Hamish finds himself with a new murder on his hands. If he doesn't find the killer fast, Hamish's dream wedding could become a nightmare.

Critic reviews

"Longing for escape? Tired of waiting for Brigadoon to materialize? Time for a trip to Lochdubh, the scenic, if somnolent, village in the Scottish Highlands where M. C. Beaton sets her beguiling whodunits featuring Constable Hamish Macbeth." (New York Times Book Review)

"Hamish Macbeth is that most unusual character, one to whom the reader returns because of his charming flaws. May he never get promoted." (New York Journal of Books)

"With residents and a constable so authentic, it won't be long before tourists will be seeking Lochdubh and believing in the reality of Hamish Macbeth as surely as they believed in Sherlock Holmes." (Denver Rocky Mountain News)

I so enjoyed the Hamish MacBeth series,. I stopped everything to listen to this. Such an interesting introduction - though I still felt a
bit as if M.C's ghost was with us as we started
the book.
If you buy this you may wonder Why as you hear the first few chapters. BUT stick with it and you'll find yourself in the Highlands with
the author: her village, friends and Hamish. You may find yourself making a quick search for "Wild Cat Scotland."
You will be charmed.

Might be my favourite one yet

Oh, how I love this series when narrated by Graeme Malcolm. The interwoven love story in this instalment was wonderful. Hamish Macbeth is a hero, a gentleman, and a Highland treasure.

Poor Hamish

You can tell this was not fully written by Marion but the story held up and was good, I’m still not a fan on the narrator, he’s very bland with the characters…

He needs to be out, killed by someone else and that should be the next book about Death of a Bad Cop

Outstanding Book

Enjoyed this story very much, was Greatly Saddened for Hamlisch though. Sometimes life can be lonely for Rural Policeman. As a former Policeman I can identify with the things happening. Hope the forwarding person Carry’s onward.

a perfect ending

I'd read all the Hamish series in order when I decided to listen to the last one;
Green Eyed...... That and the story line made it a fitting goodbye to Hamish and to MCB. She gave me a very happy summer with these cozies. Hamish is in love with life;he does'nt need a partner. His friends and his pets are his world and he's always been a satisfied and gratefule man. Perhaps I've learned that from him!

The Best Hamish Macbeth mystery!

I have read all the Hamish mysteries, and this one I thought was the best! I have enjoyed them all! I hope more may be released, though the author sadly died in 2019.

Ending

I was very dissatisfied with this end to the series. Well I didn’t find a style at all a problem, I felt that the romance with Dorothy was rushed and had no foundation in the history and culture of the village and previous stories. I’ve always wanted him to wind up with Priscilla. I felt that when we had insight into her thoughts while they were engaged there was something she wasn’t sharing with him but that she wasn’t really cold and distant as he thought. It’s so disappointing that the author brushed that whole thing aside.
