No mystery, just 1 long apology & scolding
So the author put Megan in what was clearly a contrived lesbian relationship which had no physical or emotional affection. Kisses on the top of the head, or the back of the hand. Really? It feels more like box was checked off on a publisher’s list than an honest relationship.
And the relationship amount to a book-long nag from the lover that Megan better not investigate this murder or she’d be dumped. Megan grovels & pleads & assures & apologizes. That’s pretty much the whole book.
Gone is the strong, competent & witty retired Army medic. In her place we get miss-apologetic. And the fun, interesting and well fleshed out characters in Megan’s life? Ms Murphy has turned them into something as bland and tastelessly uninteresting as vegetables boiled to a mushy grey.
Pity, the first 3 books were a promising start to a new series.

Too much relationship drama
I usually like these books but the addition of a girlfriend that doesn't want to accept that she is very curious and likes to follow things through. And it felt terrible listening to the main character constantly apologizing over and over and over again.
