Publisher's summary

From the award-winning author of the acclaimed novel Poe comes an edgy and bone-chilling new novel.

When Fiona Dunn is approached in a bar by a man who claims he's the devil, she figures it's just some kind of postmodern-slash-ironic pickup line. But a few drinks in, he offers her a wish in exchange for her immortal soul, and in addition Fiona must perform a special favor for him whenever the time comes. Fiona finds the entire matter so absurd that she agrees. Bad idea. Not only does Fiona soon discover that she really was talking to the devil incarnate, but she's now been initiated into a bizarre support group of similar "dead souls" - those who have done the same thing as Fiona on a whim and who must spend their waking hours in absolute terror of that favor eventually being called in...and what exactly is required from each of them in order to give the devil his due.

Don't get started unless you have time to listen

I usually like to listen to audio books in bed at night as I'm drifting off to sleep. This book had me hooked immediately and I had a hard time putting it down so I could sleep. Thankfully the next day was my day off so I turned it on again in the morning and listened to it straight through.

The narrator is fantastic and the story is thrilling, just enough gore to be horrifying but not so much to detract from the story itself. I could really see this being a movie if the right person ever got ahold of it. It's definitely worth the credit.

Stressed out Satan

Dead souls is a story about a 21st century marketing guru who succumbs to the demonic proposition. It is a reasonably interesting story. Much like many other books on the same subject, the difference is its MBA marketing twist. While the story is not top-notch, the narration is outstanding. If you are a fan of Julia Whelan, this is a must listen.

Would you sell your soul to the devil for love?

Any additional comments?

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Absolutely, especially for my friends who enjoy a good paranormal novel.

This book was very well put together with characters that you felt connected to. The aspect of reality as far as the terror occurring everyday within our world was well related to the book and how regular people make deals with the devil. Interesting perspective that absolutely makes you think.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Samantha Watkins, Book 1?
I think at the beginning when she is making the deal with the devil to save her boyfriend who is dying of cancer, but it spirals out of control before her eyes.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
YES! I couldn't stop listening. Very exciting to find another series that I want to listen to the entire series.

Holy @!€¢✓®! Scratch is back in town.

Julia Whelan’s vocals are perfection. I had just started “Dead Souls,” and from the first, I was audicted. So many questions. Surprises around every corner. I had to begin this review earlier. Whelan's narrative magic bring each character to vivid life. How does she do it? Wait until you meet Scratch! My first by author J. Lincoln Fenn, I’ve had this in my wishlist for a long time. What took me so long to buy it? I look forward to more by this talented duet. Though it is worth a credit, I lucked out and was able to buy it for a bit over $9. Alexa and I enjoyed this deviously delicious listen. Note: Listen intently as this is an intricate and complexellent novel and you don’t want to miss anything.

Unanticipatedly Average

First off, this is nowhere as enjoyable, or skillfully constructed as the author's previous work, and if you haven't read "Poe" then I heartily recommend you do so if you'd like to experience the flavor of the writer's skill at her craft... That being said, it's an ok, and only ok, read... The plot and intrigue is a bit thin... It also lacks the humorous touch I had expected from my prior reading It takes a fair bit to get going, but does pick up around 1 third or so the way through... The climax/ending left me a bit unsatisfied, and although tieing a bow on the story, did so w/o anything that gripped... Characters are pretty decent, especially the main ones... Narration is good, but at times did male voices w/a bit too much affect... I don't begrudge the credit, but wouldn't read a second book in this apparent series...

no, no, no

It’s an okay story with some interesting parts. I did not believe the story line. The protagonist is supposed to be the daughter of poor, abusive addicts; staple in my former neighborhood. I this is true she is the dumbest survivor I have ever read. Seriously this chick has the survival skills of a piece of toast. She is afraid her boyfriend is cheating so she makes a soul changing deal? There is no build in suspense, no true horror, this is a straight even story. The only reason I finished was because I bought the audible book. If it were a paper back I would end by using it as kindling.

I was NOT given this book at a free or discounted price for my honest opinion.

Horrible book! So disappointing!

It was such an interesting premise and so much could have been done with it! Which is the only reason I kept listening, thinking surely something interesting and insightful is going to happen here. Instead the author chose to go down a well worn path of gore and horrible insight missing such great opportunity to explore good and evil. So sorry that I wasted any time on it!
