Publisher's Summary
She ruined their lives. Now they’re going to destroy hers.
"Someone is re-creating every traumatic point in your life. They are doing this to make you suffer, to make you hurt and the only possible end game can be death. Your death."
On the fourth floor of Chaucer House, two teenagers are found chained to a radiator. The boy is dead but the girl is alive. For Detective Kim Stone every detail of the scene mirrors her own terrifying experience with her brother Mikey, when they lived in the same tower block 30 years ago.
When the bodies of a middle-aged couple are discovered in a burnt-out car, Kim can’t ignore the chilling similarity to the deaths of Erica and Keith - the only loving parents Kim had ever known.
Faced with a killer who is re-creating traumatic events from her past, Kim must face the brutal truth that someone wants to hurt her in the worst way possible. Desperate to stay on the case, she is forced to work with profiler Alison Lowe, who has been called in to observe and monitor Kim’s behaviour.
Kim has spent years catching dangerous criminals and protecting the innocent. But with a killer firmly fixed on destroying Kim, can she solve this complex case and save her own life, or will she become the final victim?
The heart-stopping and totally addictive new crime thriller from multimillion-copy number one bestseller Angela Marsons will have you completely hooked.

Nope. Just Nope.
I'm a huge Angela Marsons fan and have enjoyed the KIm Stone series until now. A police procedural morphed into a psych thriller overload. Perhaps I'm just over the top at the mo with the current spate of tortured protagonists with disturbing backgrounds or horrific events in their past. But using KIm's traumatic background as a template for all the crimes in the story was just too achingly self-referential, and reeks of weariness and fatigue.
Marsons writes wonderful characters, but most of her team were left on the shelf in this outing. Stacy gets a moment of glory and Penn barely that, and poor Bryant barely gets his oars in. Woody makes a surprise appearance late in the game, but still. These characters were wasted here as mere props for the great and anomalous KIm, who can get oh-so tiring by her tormented and brilliant self. The climax was stupid and predictable; for such a brilliant mind, Kim acts impulsively but predictably and almost kills herself and another.
Please Ms. Marsons, bring the village back to life again. Send Kim on vacation (or second her to the East Midlands) and let Bryant and Keats and their colleagues solve the next one. It would be a smash hit.

Healing for Kim
Kim Stone is not a likable character, although the author helps readers and listeners understand her and so offers the chance for us outside the story to choose to develop empathy for her. In this addition to the series, Kim has to bare her story to those she has power over, her Team. In other volumes, it's only those with power over her and who are male who have this intimate knowledge. I'm curious how the author will move the arc forward if the series continues. I will have trouble accepting the Kim if she continues to act as if her past still was a secret to her peers and subordinates.

loved this audio book for its:
*complex plots
*heartbreaking twists
*Kim Stone
and best of all, the
police team growing in sharpness, bravery, and loyalty with each chapter.
The villains are sociopathic and devious.
The victims are blameless.
Somehow because of the author's brilliance, a certain justice is achieved.
The narrator's voice is rich but tends to overdramatize the already vivid dialogue. Some of the dark humor is lost through that quirk.
I highly recommend this unstoppable tale.

The narrator could not be more PERFECT in bringing out the spirit of this series that will get you hooked. Her rendition of Kim Stone makes Kim's acerbic nature truly endearing. On the flip side, the way she delivers the sweet, patronizing demeanor Kim bestows on her adversaries embodies all of the reasons they have to want her dead :)
I highly recommend this entire series.

The team decide to make up a checklist of who should be on the list and the biggest problem is how to condense the long list. Her DCI is working out whether or not she is up to the task due to the nature of the case.
Someone is recreating the traumatic events that Kim lived through growing up. The accuracy of the crimes means that someone must have some inside information.
We go through some hell raising moments, Will Kim and her team get to the bottom of this case and save the latest life??? It’s a real rollercoaster ride…..

Narration grating
I had to give up; the narrator's interpretation did not match the story. She had a limited repertoire of accents which made or difficult to keep track of characters who sounded the same. Her portrayal of Kim Stone, the detective, was too rigid.

The title might say dead but the book is not
If you have never read anything from this author l recommend you do - hopefully like me you will be glued till finished. Recommend you just start at the start and read the series - seriously you will blow through them. I read these at the speed l used to read early Mary Higgins Clark
This one has Kim's team learning more about her and by the time you get to this book, you will be very interested. I love the insights into human behaviour that is shared in this book and cannot help wonder why those insights are better dialogued by this author than any other ... is the source of this knowledge herself or someone else?
Either way the story is a delight.

Narration??
Storyline is great, the characters are fabulous, and the ending is amazing, however as fantastic as the narrator is, she has to learn how to present aggressiveness, not rudeness. A lot of voice changing mistakes, and everyone is portrayed as overly rude. Your voice is fabulous Jan, needs work on the emotions.

Superb
Another great story in this series, brilliantly narrated. The characters are brilliantly described and you feel that you know the team as they work their cases, really enjoyed it.

really exciting
Really enjoyed this book. Had felt I struggled to finish the last couple in this series. Great plot and did not guess who did it until it was revealed
Have grown to really like the main characters . Hoping there is another to listen to soon.

Another great story with detective Kim Stone
This story ties to a bunch of her previous books so if you want an immersive experience, definitely read the previous books otherwise you will get lost.

Cracker
Tenth book and still loving it. I love the authors writing, love the characters, love the no-nonesense, plain speaking midland English directness. Loving the anticipation of more books to come.
