Deputy U.S. Marshals Arliss Cutter and Lola Teariki brave a brutal and unforgiving Alaskan winter on a desperate manhunt that takes a blood-chilling twist in New York Times bestselling author and former U.S. Marshal Marc Cameron’s breathless, taut new wilderness adventure thriller for fans of Paul Doiron, CJ Box, Taylor Moore, and William Kent Krueger.

Deputy U.S. Marshals Arliss Cutter and Lola Teariki are at frozen Cheney Lake, finally nearing their prey. He’s Butch Pritchard, a killer-for-hire as ruthless as the Anchorage wind, and wanted for the murder of a 25-year-old pregnant woman in Missouri. A cruel hit orchestrated by the victim’s husband, Royce Decker, a former member of the St. Louis Metro PD and on the run too. As quickly as Butch is in the marshals’ sight he disappears, abandoning a bear of a partner who’s terrified for his life. But it isn’t Butch or Royce he’s afraid of.

If it isn’t those two outlaws, then who? And why? Right now, the creep in custody has gone silent and Arliss and Lola soon realize there’s more to this manhunt than they ever imagined. To see it through to the end they’ll have to find Butch first, then close on the cold-blooded husband. There is one lead to go on: a woman Butch has been involved with. His number one. She’s ready to talk. Even as scared to death as she is. When Arliss and Lola suddenly face an all-new case linked to this one, they’ll find out what everyone is so afraid of. And how many ways things could still go terribly wrong.

"A double-barreled blast of action, narrative, and impossible-to-fake authenticity.”—C. J. BOX

The only complaint is one or two many simultaneous story lines for my taste. It became more tense and suspenseful than I usually listen to or has been the case with previous in this series.

More suspense

It is hard not to be cold as you hear the temps as Allies and Lola fight the bad guys and the weather. These stories become a part of you as you finish each book.

Always exciting, right to the end!

Arliss & Lola continue to kick tail & take names both together & apart. A second and possibly third long arc gets established to continue to encourage one to read the series in order, but you won’t be lost if it’s your first book. This book has a complete story arc, but also works in a setup for the next book. I truly appreciate the mix of short (one book), medium (2-3 books), and long stories (several books) this series offers.

Another great adventure

Amazing surprise ending

Dead Line really had a lot of twists & turns. And I had to put covers on to listen when it just kept getting COLDER and COLDER! Really don't think anyone could survive, especially with the windchill factor. And what an ending, can't wait.

Marc really knows how to keep you coming back!

Great trek out in the wilds of Alaska. I can not even imagine what any temp below zero would feel like nor do I ever want to find out. Great adventures as always. Now to wait for the next book!

...but this is my favorite so far of the Arliss Cutter series!! If you're a fan of the testosterone-fueled, yet unasuming man who just gets it done while maintaining his moral code, the Arliss Cutter series is for you! Similar in ways to CJ Box's Joe Pickett or William Kent Krueger's Cork O'Connor, Arliss is a LEO who only wants to do his job to the best of his ability. White-Knight syndrome runs deeply through his veins as this unassuming hero risks life and limb to protect those around him.

This particular addition to the series is a free-for-all all of bad guys chasing their prey through the Alaskan wilderness in an epic polar vortex. It would make a great comedy if it weren't so life-threatening. If the bad guys or the good guys don't get you, the weather probably will in this case. This was nearly non-stop action as mayhem from the Lower 48 made its way to Cutter's territory, and therefore onto his radar.

As this series progressed, we've seen amazing growth in the main characters, especially Arliss and his partner, Lola. But Arliss still struggles with family relationships, and this time, his estranged mother, who abandoned him in his childhood, shows up. Marc Cameron knocked this one outta' the park.
