Story
We used to believe that mankind contaminated the Earth through our use of oil, coal, and other non-biodegradable consumables and pollutants. We never once considered that the planet might one day contaminate us. But that's what happened. More than a year has passed since an ancient gas started seeping from every surface of the planet. Nine out of every 10 humans have since transformed into walking dead creatures with an insatiable hunger for human brains and flesh. We, the survivors, are now food for the afflicted… and we are vastly outnumbered.

Something more dangerous. With their families poised to grow, the stakes are now higher than ever for our friends. Each new discovery creates the need for a new defense. Hemp has his hands full as some among the zombie masses appear to be utilizing more of their grey matter in a horrifying way. Story
The Baxter family once ran airboat tours in the Florida Everglades; life was simple and good. Everything changed with the black rain. It tainted the Earth, setting in motion a true zombie apocalypse. Most dogs died after the pitch fell from the sky. So did the alligators and crocodiles, but the ancient reptiles did not rest for long. Instead, they awoke hungry, falling in to feed beside the hordes of reanimated humanity.

Story
Adrian Ring is broken. He was wounded badly, and with dead loved ones on all sides, he makes a bold, life-changing decision; he’s leaving Bastion and its people to help the unknown second Trinity in Europe, where a terrible strain of faster, smarter undead still rampage in the streets. Clinging to what’s left of his tattered soul, he must assemble a small team to bring across the Atlantic aboard one of the few still-operational US Navy frigates. The battle ahead is ominous enough, but the journey might kill him before he sets foot on European soil.

Good story, good recording!
And suddenly the poor recording issues are gone when the author reads himself. The author is actually quite good at narrating and got better the more he read. It was only in the beginning prologue that he breathed into the microphone. The female voices weren't the greatest, but they were good enough.
The most important aspect of this series is the character depth and relations between the main characters.
I prefer my zombies stories to be grittier and darker and I'm not a keen fan of supernatural stuff, like talking babies. But the storyline held up for the most part. Good book in the end!

Amazing as all the rest of the Dead Hunger series
no matter how many times I read or listen to the Dead Hunger series, I am still enthralled by the world Eric has created. The intensity with which he writes is just natural born talent. Eric has a way of creating characters you just know are real somewhere in the world. His story telling is bar none and I can't think of any other series that I read over and over and find something new and magical in each time.

Great Story but Narrating "Off"
I know the author has also been the narrator for this series but for whatever reason, I found his performance for this book, particularly lacking. The distinction of characters by their voices were muddied this reading. I was often unsure of who was speaking, unless it was Flex, Hemp or Nels (who are truly distinct). For a good portion of the book, his performance was rather lackluster and drab, sounding almost as if he was bored or depressed. Otherwise, another great installment of the series!

Yet another really good listen
Yet another really good audio book. This one is without a doubt the best one in the series so far, so packed full of action and tense moments. The only thing that let it down a tiny bit is that the narration is different to the other books so far in the series, the characters sound so different. It's like the voices haven't quite got their individuality yet. I think its because the author originally had someone else narrate the first 5 then started on this one, and went back and re recorded the rest at a later date. I wouldn't let this put you off though, its still a fantastic story just took a bit of getting used to. Straight onto the next one now! Thank you Eric, I hope this becomes a TV series or film one day!
