Sixty seconds after she wakes from a coma, Maggie's world is torn apart.

The police tell her that her daughter Elspeth is dead. That she drowned when the car Maggie had been driving plunged into the river. Maggie remembers nothing.

When Maggie begs to see her husband, Sean, the police tell her that he has disappeared. He was last seen on the day of their daughter's funeral.

What really happened that day at the river?

Where is Maggie's husband?

And why can't she shake the suspicion that somewhere, somehow, her daughter is still alive?

I enjoyed it. could have been better but good

As always there will be no spoilers in my reviews 😃. I was interested and slightly intrigued but I did figure out one part of plot but not entirely
I was surprised at a few things. Narration was Very Good. Tara didn't dissapoint perfect time and pace. will look for her narrating other book. I say it all the time A bad narrator can ruin a great book. authors need to be more aware of the impact it makes. I'd be happy to take that job. give me a five min or less I'll tell you whether you have a good narrator. all narrator have a listen to Imogen Church imo she top of the game. this narrator was new to me. but did very well

Riveting Read

This book grasped my full attention from the first few sentences. I went through all sorts of machinations when attempting to solve the puzzle! I had never read Ms. Ellwood until this book and will certainly go back and read whatever she has written

The reader was par excellence! Marvelous voice and her interpretations of the different characters was simply perfect.

Tense, Well Paced and Engrossing!

I always like it when trying a new author hits pay dirt and that's precisely what I got with this one from Nuala Ellwood. She does a fine job of building a mystery with an intriguing snippet of a prologue and regular, mysterious letters from a child throughout.

For the most part it's a bit of a tug on the old heart strings and I think most parents will find it gives them food for thought, it did this one anyway! It does rely on amnesia which can be tricky to deal with but I think it does it reasonably well and without any hugely ridiculous situations manages to build a mystery and a threat. Maggie who is the lead is isolated into a hugely difficult situation and her struggles against it feel very real at times.

I found the ending extremely satisfying in a book that moved gradually up through the gears without relying on too many outlandish coincidences. The narration by Tara Fitzgerald is sympathetic and very easy on the ear.

This is an author I will watch out for in the future.

Great start but a disappointing end

I really enjoyed the first two thirds of this book and found it difficult to stop listening. However towards the end when the plot and twist unfolded it was just silly. It's difficult to say what was silly without being a plot spoiler but when the reason behind the events that led up to the accident were revealed it was just daft. If only the end had echoed the first chapters which were engrossing and had real tension. I am also not sure about Tara Fitzgerald as a narrator she has a very strong voice that tends to grate after a long period of listening. I will give this author another go as there were good things about this book.

Fantastic

All I can say is this book was fantastic. I read it in a day and a half. It had such a twist at the end that it blew my mind. I didn’t see it coming. Seriously, you need to read this book. You’ll be glad you did. The suspense was so intense. Loved this book.

A thoroughly gripping read

I have read many many books during my lifetime and continue to do so. Some have been good, some have been not so good and then, a very small minority have been outstanding. Some have left me wondering why I bothered to persevere, some have just left me and been forgotten by the time I closed the back cover and then, very occasionally, a book comes along which stays with me long after I have finished it.
This book has done just that. It drew me into the lives of the characters so well I really felt I knew them. More than that, I actually cared about them! Very well written with just a little hint of an underlying menace that makes it compulsive. I don’t want to give anything of the plot away but I relished every word and every twist and turn. Gripping!

Disappointed

From the reviews I thought this would be a gripping thriller and I had high hopes at first. However the story was so overworked everyone is proceeding on misinformation , secrets and lies. I guessed the”twist “ early on and found the denouement rather soap operish. The narrator was just OK.

Too long

Needed cutting. Kept going of on tangent when you just wanted to get in with story. Juvenile letters went into overkill. Narrator only emphasised issues rather than making the best of it
