Publisher's summary

The countdown to Nemesis 3 has begun, pushing humanity closer to the brink of extinction.

James and his team are now Earth's last line of defense amidst the chaos of New York City. But with each Nemesis wave they defeat and each power James unveils, a grim truth unfolds: they're being manipulated.

The enemy not only predicts their actions, it feeds on them. Their struggle may be nothing more than a sinister game or a prelude to annihilation.

To stand a chance, they must rewrite the rules. In the dwindling light of hope, James embraces his role as a leader. Tough decisions, impossible sacrifices, and the weight of the world on his shoulders—he'll face it all.

Anything to break the system.

Good story but . . .

The cliffhanger at the end of the story did not really grab me. I really feel like this story should have gone on for a couple more chapters before the conclusion. The end of the first book had me rearing for more, but this one not so much. F-bomb alert. I think I gave this alert in the first book also, but really, the author does not need so much swearing. It does nothing for the story but lowers the quality, in my opinion.

Underrated!

Blows my mind when books like HWFWM gets 5 stars (terrible book btw) and books like this go unnoticed. Awesome first two books. Cannot wait for the third in a couple days!

Awesome

It’s not often that a second book is better than the first but this book surpasses the first. It hits all the marks, action, progression, and a great story. Can’t wait for the third book.

Getting better

Mc starting to be more on his own is awesome and will make the series so much better and a lot less teen movie like.

Solid continuation of series

I really liked the first book. Albeit the weird religious sounding attributes (i.e. blessings, divinities etc). But, in this one the weird “religious” overtones are just getting even more prominent and even more weird and, well, uncomfortable…

Great 2nd installment of the series

First off, Tom is doing a great job as the narrator. His range in voice acting is vast and convincing. I really enjoyed the progression of the story. It really has what I can only describe as weight. There are too many stories that don't take the time to really ground you to the reality of character relationships, cost of war, true moral dilemma, loss, and growth. For a fantasy setting, it hits you with a dose of reality that I wish more stories should strive for. Not every successful mission equals a victory. Trying your best can still mean you fall woefully short. Sometimes, the right choice means you do the "wrong" thing. I found the catalysts of the Apocalypse to be a little lacking. However, in the grand scheme of the literal multliverse, the lives of billions mean nothing to old monsters that are eternal. I'm looking forward to the next book.

Amazing read.

Definitely enjoyed this book!!! Had a ton of fun with characters growth in power, would have liked to see what his powers could do at the end 🥲

Excellent, recommended for LitRPG/SysInt fans

I greatly enjoyed the first 3 books of this series, having just finished listening to book 3.
I hope more installments occur, but if not, the tale is excellent as is.

If anyone likes LitRPG, system integration, and/or apocalyptic scenarios/survival, check out this series.

Wow, insane

Phil Tucker's writing style is amazingly good. I got lost in the immoral great souls books and after loving them as much as I did I had to check out Phil's other works. I'm normally opposed to real world type books and prefer built worlds around fantasy with nothing remotely familiar to "the real world" but... after making it to the end of the second book I'm very impressed with these books. as I won't say that I love this story as much as I did the the immoral great souls books, these books aren't all that much less of a tier in ranking. I would describe it as same tier, maybe just a little less, but really just more along the lines of different stats, or maybe a different ability that is very attractive, just not quite on the same exact level. basically what I'm saying is that I still love bastion slightly more lol and if these books turn out to be a prequel series somehow I'll like them that much more than I already do. I enjoyed the litrpg style in this story as well. I haven't read a whole lot of that style of books but I have a few now and I do really enjoy them.
