Poaching, politics, and killer motives....

A routine patrol leads to the discovery of an orphaned elephant and her butchered family on the border with Tanzania. An international poaching racket is responsible, and David makes it his mission to bring the perpetrators to justice. Kenya is in political and economic turmoil, with widespread violence and acts of atrocity being committed by the government against the Kikuyu.

Who is Commander Peter Abasi, aka Maliki, and what does he want with Professor Mutungi and the Committee of Human Rights? And where do freelance reporter Aaron Bernstein and Seymour Dewitt of the American Embassy fit in?

Amidst the turmoil, David meets Caitlyn, the new vet at the elephant orphanage. As the heat intensifies, will he be able to protect her?

This book made me want to throw up

I mean it as a compliment. Gut-wrenching and brutal throughly. The story telling was equally as fantastic and easy to get lost in.

Thought-provoking and entertaining

Dan Fletcher’s Dawn of Deception is a gripping, thrilling, fascinating, and thought-provoking audiobook that casts a revealing light on Kenya’s controversial and often overlooked world of poaching. Mr. Fletcher skillfully presents a compelling narrative featuring a fearless Kenyan ranger who dedicates his life to bringing these criminals to justice.

Regrettably, this subject, in my humble opinion, remains overlooked in today’s global landscape. I hate all forms of violence, particularly when it targets innocent animals. This poignant tale sheds light on the needlessly barbaric practices employed in the slaughter of elephants and rhinos, as well as the cowardly underground geopolitical forces that ruthlessly perpetuate the profitable empire of poaching.

While Dawn of Deception is a work of fiction, it draws heavily from real-life events which only makes such a scenario even more disheartening, unsettling, and troubling. Through this audiobook, I discovered that Kenya serves as the poaching hub of the world, hiding in plain sight a well-equipped port with direct shipping lanes to China and other regions in the Far East. However, I sincerely hope that the courageous men and women working for the Kenyan Wildlife Service and the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, who put their lives on the line daily to protect these defenseless creatures, will receive with time increased support from other organizations and from wealthy private individuals.

Just like it is portrayed in this novel, I have faith that good-hearted people will always rise to combat this abhorrent evil.

The audiobook version of Dawn of Deception is narrated with fervor and emotion by Pat Devon, an exceptionally talented voiceover artist and narrator born and raised in South Africa. Mr. Devon successfully brings every character, event, and location to life in this gripping audio production. His remarkable skills in reading, acting, and assigning authentic accents and voices to each character create a truly immersive experience for the listener. It is obvious that both the author and the narrator possess a deep love for Africa, and they poured their best efforts into Dawn of Deception. I am confident this story will captivate action thriller enthusiasts, keeping them on the edge of their seats and yearning for more.

I eagerly await future installments in The David Nbeke Thriller Series. Part 1 is excellent so let’s hope it will become a long-running series.
