"Chevy Stevens is a brilliant and unique talent and Dark Roads is an instant classic. My hat’s off to her." (C. J. Box, number one New York Times best-selling author of Long Range)

The Cold Creek Highway stretches close to five hundred miles through British Columbia’s rugged wilderness to the west coast. Isolated and vast, it has become a prime hunting ground for predators. For decades, young women traveling the road have gone missing. Motorists and hitchhikers, those passing through or living in one of the small towns scattered along the region, have fallen prey time and again. And no killer or abductor who has stalked the highway has ever been brought to justice.

Hailey McBride calls Cold Creek home. Her father taught her to respect nature, how to live and survive off the land, and to never travel the highway alone. Now he’s gone, leaving her a teenage orphan in the care of her aunt whose police officer husband uses his badge as a means to bully and control Hailey. Overwhelmed by grief and forbidden to work, socialize, or date, Hailey vanishes into the mountainous terrain, hoping everyone will believe she’s left town. Rumors spread that she was taken by the highway killer - who’s claimed another victim over the summer.

One year later, Beth Chevalier arrives in Cold Creek, where her sister Amber lived - and where she was murdered. Estranged from her parents and seeking closure, Beth takes a waitressing job at the local diner, just as Amber did, desperate to understand what happened to her and why. But Beth’s search for answers puts a target on her back - and threatens to reveal the truth behind Hailey’s disappearance....

"Dark Roads is a chilling, pulse-pounding thriller that also tugs at the heartstrings. It's everything you've come to love from a master of the psych thriller genre!" (Mary Kubica, New York Times bestselling author of The Other Mrs.)

"My favorite Chevy Stevens book since Still Missing. Stevens reliably creates complex, resilient female characters, and Hailey and Beth - whose lives collide in Dark Roads - are utterly compelling. The suspense builds with every page, and the ending is a complete shocker." (Sarah Pekkanen, number one New York Times best-selling Author of The Wife Between Us)

This is a masterpiece. Chevy Stevens’ is a brilliant writer and this is her best book yet.

The narrator’s did an excellent job.

I cannot recommend this book enough. The only suggestion I have is that you don’t read the full description. Part of what is revealed in the second paragraph doesn’t happen until nearly halfway through the book. I’d rather have had that been unexpected.

Worth every credit.

Masterpiece

I gobbled this book up in a day. It's one of those outstanding masterpieces that fall into the unforgettable, exceptional in all ways. Great characters, human examination, bravery and live.

I love a book where are you? Are constantly guessing the bad guy, but really don’t know the answer until the final Chapter! This book was so good, and I could really relate to all of the characters!

Sooo good

Stevens draws from real life to create a compelling, gripping fiction about larger than life characters and good and evil.

I found the story because Brittany Pressley, one of my favorite narrators is one of several who make this tale come to life for the listener. It’s so important to have a storyteller who had a gift for voices snd becomes part of the fabric unlike too many audio books, where narrators detract.

Thank you all three of you and the excellent writing.

Compelling.

I couldn’t turn this one off - finished in 24 hours and ignored everything else I was supposed to be doing. This is well written...and just a really great book.

Great book

New and different was Nora , afraid were the neighbors because she touched on reality. Interesting stories that grasped the time and the small minds of those types at the time. Loved her cheery cheesy ways and how she prevailed. It was a good ending a little textbook but upbeat and not depressing for a change.

Accurate Depiction of the unknown
